Chapter 2 by Arthor Thomarius Arthor Thomarius

Your Monster

Game-breaking Hybrid. (Angel-Devil)

Floating as I was between life and , suspended in a web of darkness I could do nothing but fill out the character creation matrix in front of me.

Monster Core: Arcane. Perk: Mindbend

I chose this one because as much as I appreciated the notion of the alpha cores unbridled masculine aggression, I had the feeling that magic and spell casting would be more my style in this coming adventure of mine.

Size: Human

Because the old shoes fit well enough and if humans were to be a dominant species with which I was to contend, then I desired to be able to deal with their world on their level rather than find myself too large to maneuver.

Species core: Devil.

At the time, I figured that choosing the devil-core might grant me an extra favor with these goddesses. So I chose to become an adopted member of their family.

Package: Complete Package. Breeding add-on. Mind-break add-on.

Moving on.

Monster Power: Timefruit juice.

Because time is the most valuable thing anyone can have.

Class: Sorcerer.

Because arcane magic seemed the most versatile and scalable of the offerings before me.

Cheat Power:Hybridization.

As useful as the gamer HUD had sounded. I was sure that the trepidation with which the goddesses Melanoche and Carnichias spoke of combined monster types meant that it was to be a high risk, high reward strategy. I had intended to hybridize with the goblinoid, but then that angel Ariel interrupted my resurrection process and when the twink of a seraphim offered me an alternative species. Well I could not help myself.

Species core alteration: Angel.

What could I say, there was something about the way the queer angel was worried about what I could do as an angel, that changing my core seemed like a swell idea and for some reason, I imagined that Melanoche and Carnichias would find some ironic amusement with their dark champion being wrapped in an angelic body.

Divine Oath sworn: Respect Sacred Ground.

Examining the oaths available. I concluded that, having been a fan of The Highlander films in my previous life, I could respect people seeking shelter in their houses of worship and could see the value in neutral meeting places. I could promise to respect grounds which had been properly consecrated.

That gave me two blessings to choose from. It was tricky. But I felt that a domain of my own from which I could retreat, plan, and build in security was too good to pass up.

Blessing: Domain.

The second choice was tricky, for I could see real value in the God’s Eye, but an army on demand seemed too valuable to pass up.

Blessing: Immaculate conception.

Finally I was given a choice of divine miracles. There was no question here. As fun as having the power of the Mark of Submission would have been. Having this curious angel at my beck and call was surely a prize too valuable to pass up.

Divine Miracle: Ariel’s Alma.

And I thought I was all set to go. I could hear Ariel grumbling as Melanoche and Carnichias were wishing me good luck when it became clear that something was wrong. It became apparent that I had not finished because my angel class had not received a hybridization.

I shrugged my metaphorical shoulders and made my selections having no idea that everything was about to go to shit.

Hybridization: Angel-Devil. ERROR. ERROR ERROR

“What have you done Ariel?!” Melanoche said with a shrill of fear.

“What did I do? You are the one giving out Hybridization.” Ariel said.

“Well, we did not reformat a perfectly good monster core into a restricted species.” Carnichias exclaimed. “Shit, shit, shit. The motonic server is destabilizing. This is a class VII reality dysfunction. Fuck. Mom and dad are going to be so…”

“KIDS! Gracious Goodness. What have I told you three about screwing around with my magical worlds…” Spoke a being which did not so much say words as create meanings. The presence of such a cosmic overwhelmed me and I soon passed out.

When I came to, I was most surprised to find that I was no longer dead. I was even more surprised to discover the manner of my resurrection.

What's next?
