Chapter 1534

What do you do?
Fix a boat!
Following the gnome's instructions, you work together with the others to gather wood, and you bind them with the special plant vines Vyzia spoke of earlier, gathered by Peony. As she said, they're mightier than rope, and stretch far more, for better or for worse. It means much more have to be used to create a tight binding, though they are incredibly durable, and that bungie property is useful as well. When needed, you gather other materials as well, like regular vines, or materials from back at the gnome's little workshop nearby. The survivors have constructed numerous shelters, and within the hillside itself is an expansive cave--Vyzia's home, when she isn't napping on the roof. Eventually you construct a sort of platform to place the ship upon so that it may be serviced.
Vyzia then transforms back into her huge draconic form. Though she can't remain in the air for more than a few moments, she is still mighty, and she easily clutches the ship between her claws and slides it down perfectly onto the rail. Then the group gets to work.
Luna helps with the sails, as do you. Though your Mend spell isn't a miraculous repair-all, it certainly helps with all the tears and cracks, so with your help, all material is good material. And any heavy lifting, when not so much to require a dragon, is done by you as well, along with Vodrani and Niki. Ariusia makes for a good pair of scissors in a pinch. Amara, though not a crafter, is good with her hands, and aids in Luna's weaving. Peony of course does all required with plant-life, from collecting to preparing the path to the sea. Anastasia, Meti, Fang, Alice, Tom, and Eva assist in whatever is needed.
If only I brought Laira. Even Fava would have been able to help with planning, maybe even the magical bits, but there's nobody better with wood and nails at Castle Phoenix than Laira.
Gwynevere watches--arms crossed. Over her shoulder is the floating Anyana, and to the other side, Nelli is once again on the ground.
Though the gnome is the most skilled, his scale is rather small, so he spends a lot of time showing others blueprints and directing them. His goblin partner is certainly not as intelligent, but they work seamlessly in tandem. Unfortunately the harpy has no arms, but that doesn't mean she can't assist in flying supplies from one place to another. The slime and both catfolk also assist in various tasks, along with the others.
It takes all day. Thankfully, snacks are supplied. You're surprised to discover that not only do they harvest a number of fruits and vegetables, but some are grown in the glade, and there is some meat as well, said to be from boars farther into the island, though they've been careful not to extinct their supply. It's not as good as what Summer makes back home, though it's certainly better than you expected to have stranded on an island. And on top of that, a fire to cook it is easy to produce given your new dragon companion.
Though the sun hasn't yet set, evening is on its way.
But you're done at last! The project is as finished as it's going to be. The ship itself wasn't all that destroyed, though you still worry it might not be enough. The good news is all it needs to do is get you to land that isn't yet another island. The bad news is you still aren't exactly certain of the direction.
As they others finish up, you return to Gwynevere. "Can't help but notice you didn't assist."
She shrugs. "I saw no reason to dirty my hands with such manual labour when so many others were already present. You did fine without me."
"That means you surely have a solution to our other problem."
"What do you mean?"
"Directions. You're the Lady of the Deep Sea or whatever, so you must be able to help us navigate."
"... Perhaps. When we are on board, I will tap into my power gifted to me by Seno'nojoch."
"You are the great Demon King after all," you stroke her ego.
"Mm. I am." She runs a hand back through her long, white hair. "Now that you say so, I would say it is certain. I will guide us to safety."
"Of course you will."
Vyzia's voice carries even farther in dragon form. Perched atop the stones, she roars out and gathers everybody's attention. "We will bring the ship to water before the sun sets! Everybody gather. Soon, we will find our freedom."
Then Meti approaches. In her hand is a large corked flask. "And I have this, as I said."
"And what is it?" you ask.
"Golden Lube, a rare, magical concoction. It shall take the entire bottle, and we not be able to cover as much as we should, but surely it'll help. Make sure you don't get it on your skin, as the effects last about twenty-four hours. We'll use brushes, ones made from leaves and grass. Anything this substance covers will have little to no friction, so the ship should be able to slide with ease all the way to the coast."
"All right then." You call out to the others. "Let's get lubed up, everyone!"
