Chapter 23
by

What are Azulas tastes like?
Expensive
$14,641.79
"Fifteen thousand dollars?" I asked as I stared at the screen in front of me. I had imagined Azula wouldn't exactly pick the cheapest options but this was a lot. What did she even buy that was so expensive?
"What? Do you mean we have to pay the computer to deliver these goods?" I was pretty sure she knew exactly that this wasn't how it worked.
"Not the computer but the company who delivers these goods." I told her carefully. Getting into an argument about prices could potentially be a good way to lose the progress I had just made with her.
"Oh. Well you didn't tell me. And I'm not doing all of that again." I swallowed at that. I indeed hadn't told her. I was still convinced that she knew there would be some price to pay, but she probably really didn't pay any attention to the prices, not to mention she most likely wasn't programmed to be knowledgeable in modern currencies. I had to butter her up somehow.
"Ah but Princess Azula, surely you must realize that for a peasant like me, this is a lot of money." I argued.
"Oh, so you're saying I'm not worth it?" Damn, she wasn't pulling any punches.
"No, of course not. As a princess you deserve nothing but the best quality." I carefully admitted. I just hoped flattery would work in this case.
"I'm glad you agree." She stated with a finality that was making me swallow again.
"Can we at least look through the shopping cart to see if you really want everything you ordered?" I gingerly asked. I still had the hope that she had put something in the cart that was just a misunderstanding. Like the armor set she had wanted to buy.
"What if I say 'no'?" I looked at her and her face was back to her superior expression with no hint of a blush left. There was no way of worming my way out of this. I would either have to allow her to order whatever she deemed necessary or risk massively annoying her. And when I looked at her like this, it was pretty obvious that I already made my choice.
"Allright then. Let's place the order." I said but as my hand moved towards the trackpoint Azula grabbed my hand to stop me.
"How much is this in Fire Nation money?" She asked looking me right in the eye. Huh. I had no idea how to convert dollars to a fictional currency. The Fire Nation in the show seemed to be somewhat similar to Japan, so maybe Yen? Working in the financial sector came handy for once in my life as I tried to estimate the conversion between the currencies in my head.
"Around 1.5 million." I told her. I only saw her eyes widen for a split-second before she returned to her blank face from before.
"You were willing to spend this much money, just to make me happy?" She seemed honestly touched by this but apparently noted the rather soft tone in her voice herself and continued in a much more business-like tone. "You must be horrible with money. Go look through it, I don't want your bankruptcy on my conscience."
I was tempted to ask her about her conscience but decided not to push her too much right now. As I started to move my hand to go through her shopping cart we both became aware of something at the same time. We were basically holding hands right now. I expected her to pull her hand away like mad or even break mine, but she just pulled it away very slowly and looked away. I smiled happily as I realized we were getting closer at last.
A few minutes later I came to realize just how good it was that we had decided to check on her would-be purchases. About a third of it was either hygiene products or actual sensible clothing, although not all of it was the correct size. Another third was clothing per se but nothing she would ever have a use for. Although it took a while to explain that the chain mail sold on amazon was not something that could actually be used in battle. The last third of the items was, to me, completely nonsensical, at least until I realized she probably searched for terms that interested her and then just randomly put them into the cart.
"You know, this isn't really a battleship, but just a movie called 'Battleship'."
"What's a movie?"
"Um. Something like a play that you can watch on screen."
"But it doesn't say that." She almost pouted. It was the strangest experience to see that look on her face.
"Yes, that is true. But I guarantee you, you cannot buy actual battleships on the internet."
"So that 'Space Battleship Yamato' is also not a real battleship?" She asked very disappointedly.
"I'm afraid not."
We continued until we arrived at the last items she had picked. Namely, the ones after she had measured her bust.
"Ah, so 34C." I chuckled as Azula realized I would be able to see these purchases as well with a face of sheer horror.
"From now on everything is correct, we don't need to check anymore." She hurriedly told me, her face once again a deep scarlet. I supposed I owed her that much privacy and simply clicked on the purchase button. It still wasn't a small sum but at least I had managed to curb some of the more outlandish picks.
"Whew. No most of that stuff should actually arrive tommorrow. So until then you'll have to do with what you have." Azula gave a dejected sigh but ultimately seemed rather satisfied with her shopping spree. Personally I couldn't await dinner.
What's for dinner?
