Chapter 36
Rescue
I was moving quickly. Caroline had told me which direction the vampires had gone, and it did not take me long to find out that they had gotten into a car. I at first had no real idea how to track them because of the vehicle, magic was an idea but it would take time, although an idea had hit me. The power I had used least, control over bats and birds, I reached out feeling my mind latch to theirs and then directed them with my will. The thousands of minds shot out in the direction the vampires had gone, and hopefully, I would soon know where they went.
Unlike in the show, where Rose and Trevor captured him, there were at least twice the number of vampires involved now. Luckily, I used one of the other powers, the one used very rarely in the show, head diving. The ability to delve into another's mind, to see their memories or influence their mind. Thankfully, with a head dive, I managed to find out what the vampires had looked like, as Caroline had no problem with me taking a peek into her head, especially if it would save her friend.
I had already started going in the direction Elena had been taken, but even with my enhanced senses stretching out for miles, I could find no trace of the young doppelganger. Yet I still searched covering as much ground as I could, drafting throughout the sky, going faster than I even thought possible.
It was not long before one of the many birds I was connected to saw the familiar face of one of the vampires from Caroline's memory. I redirected myself towards the direction of the vampire and shot myself towards it, pushing my flight to the **** while also pulling on my control over fog. In moments fog started rolling like a blanket over the hills.
I was right above the property when another person arrived, focusing on him, I realised who it was, Elijah Mikaelson, my elder brother. I remembered how this went in the show, Rose and Trevor would hand Elena over to Elijah, hoping to be forgiven for a previous betrayal. Unfortunately for Trevor Elijah did not forgive him, instead taking his head off for the betrayal. Then Damon and Stefan would show up and somehow manage to incapacitate Elijah, though I knew that was mainly luck on their side.
I hesitated for a moment, letting fog completely cover the house, giving me an advantage in the upcoming fight. I focused on the house for a moment, quickly finding that there were many more vampires than I thought. I found fifteen, and on top of that, Elijah was there. The best way to make sure Elena remained unharmed would be to do it quietly.
I dived down straight at the first vampire, the one on the outside of the house they expected trouble. As I dived, I drew my claws and directed my hands towards his heart, as I hit him, his heart came straight out through his back, killing him instantly. As I dived I had wordlessly conjured a silencing charm, swallowing all sound that the vampire made in the brief moment before he died.
I stepped forward and opened the door, half expecting to be blocked by a barrier caused by someone owning the building. Instead, I found that I could walk through without any issues, perfect, I thought, while diving into the shadows. I moved through the shadows, gliding through them until I found my next target, a single vampire patrolling the halls. I darted out of the shadows, the silencing spell still active, within a single movement, I seized the vampire, dragging him in before latching my fangs onto his neck and drinking him dry. Once his veins ran dry I put my hand to his neck and tore his head straight off his shoulders.
I had killed two vampires so far without allowing the others to discover me. Unfortunately, the next two were not alone, so I would have to be careful when dealing with them. I followed through the shadows for a moment before drawing my sword from its hidden sheath at my belt, then I dived out slashing the first vampire in two from shoulder to hip. As the now-burning vampire's body hit the floor, the other turned towards me. I delivered another slash, bisecting him at the waist. Flames consumed their bodies as they writhed in pain, fortunately, their screams were muffled by my spell, allowing me to continue on without detection.
I moved through one shadow before appearing in another at the opposite side of the room, behind another vampire. Just as I was about to dive out to attack another vampire came into the room. Extending my control over blood to the vampire that just came in, I pulled at his blood, pulling it out of his body before firing it towards the one that still stood in front of me. As the vampire who's blood I had stolen hit the floor, the shards of blood hit the other, tearing him apart, before I shot out and tore his head from his shoulders and walking to the other, I repeated the action.
Six were now dead, and I moved to take the rest of their lives. Four were sat in one room, talking and laughing. Having an idea I darted back to one of my previous victims, then I returned to the four that sat doing nothing much. I darted from one shadow to another on the opposite side of the room while throwing the body in the middle of the four vampires. With a wave of my hand, the doors of the room closed, locking the four in with me while also making sure that the silencing spell remained.
The four vampires shot up, standing while looking all around, panic filling their faces as one of them went for the door. I dived at him slashing him with my sword, then throwing his burning body at the other vampires. I dived back into the shadows, before appearing behind the now terrified three remaining vampires, I grabbed the one closest to me, rending apart flesh and bone. The other two span as flesh flew through the air, one of them snapped a leg off a chair and charged me. Surprised at his sudden actions, I momentarily paused, watching as confidence filled his face at my pause. Yet as he got close, my hand shot out, grasping his wrist, and I relished in the look of terror that filled his face at my sudden move. With one single movement, I turned the stake back onto him, pushing the stake deep into his chest, killing him instantly. The last vampire turned back towards the door, pulling against the magic I used to seal it, yet he had no luck. I reached my hand out and gathered magic in my hand, focusing on his lungs. I paused, thinking before focusing on the air in his lungs. With one cast of magic, I ignited the oxygen in his lungs, my control over fire allowing me to cause such havoc inside his body. He burned bright, fire consuming him in seconds, turning him to ash in less than a minute.
Ten of the vampires were now dead, and only five remained between me and Elijah. I walked through the hall leading to the room where my brother waited with Elena and three vampires. I melded into the shadows before firing out of the shadows and killing the two that remained in the hall, tearing them both apart and scattering the remains around the hall. Yet before I moved to the room I felt the presence of two more moving through the house, I dived back into the shadow and waited.
Stefan and Damon appeared before my eyes. What were those idiots doing here? I silently followed as they charged into the room, two of the other vampires moved towards them, yet both died quickly at the hands of the two brothers. The other vampire moved in front of Elena as Elijah moved forward to meet the brothers. "How did you get in here. Does not really matter, leave now, and I will show mercy to you both," Elijah stated. "If we don't", Damon argued ", you don't stand a chance against us both" he continued.
Elijah smiled, then moved to meet the brothers. Damon was knocked to the side in a single hit, knocking him to the side. Stefan moved to defend his brother, but he found himself useless against the power of an original. Elijah broke both his wrists and one leg before throwing them aside like he did with Damon. Then he moved back towards Damon, claws drawn, he slashed at the older of the two brothers, his flesh parting before Elijah's claws, then Elijah brought his foot down onto the vampire's chest. The crack of bone filled the air. A Damon's ribs shattered like glass before Elijah reached down to remove the vampire's heart.
Picking this moment I slipped out of the shadows behind Elena and the one remaining vampire that followed Elijah. I seized the remaining vampire by the shoulders and pulled outwards, the screams that came from him **** Elijah to turn around surprised. The now arm-less vampire writhed in pain as Elijahs face turned from confusion to rage. "Hello brother" I said calmly while launching the remaining vampire at him.
"Asmund, what are you doing here" he said, as the rage left his voice, as calm filled him. "Stopping you" I answered, my claws lengthening. "Protecting the doppelganger, why did Katherine get boring" he asked mockingly. "You are siding with Klaus" I stated. "Yes I am, now what are you going to do, will you offer me the chance to leave unharmed" he asked the mocking tone still in his voice.
"No, I am just going to kill you", I answered before charging at him. Met halfway across the room, claws striking each other with the **** to shatter stone and rend steel apart. We fought each other, his superior speed against my superior strength. Our claws met one another as we kicked, pushed and punched off of each other, cannoning each other into the walls with each furious strike.
I grabbed his shoulder and pushed, forcing him against one wall and dragging him along it, splintering the wall as he hit it. A foot hit my chest sending me flying backwards. "Why brother, why do you side against us, for this worthless human's life, why"? he roared at me, his mask of civility dropping momentarily. "I offered him my help five centuries ago, I gave him the chance to break the curse and keep Katherine alive. Yet he spat in my face, he thought me stupid, thought he knew better than me, and then daggered us all. Yet you still stand with him. Had the dagger not worked on me, we would all probably still be rotting in coffins," I roared back.
"What about our vow, do you so easily go back on your word?" he responded, disgust filling his face. "Our vow was broken the day Klaus betrayed us, the day he kept those daggers, the day he used them on us, the day when he spat on my counsel and threw away my advice. He broke the vow, he turned his back on us. Not me" I shouted back at him in pure rage.
"You could still come, Asmund, stand back with us, the daggers have been destroyed, we can be family again", Elijah spoke with desperation in his voice. "Just hand the doppelganger over, and we can stand as one again", he continued, attempting to bargain with me. I laughed before speaking, "Really, we can be a family again. Kol and Finn are both in self-imposed exile; they are just as disgusted with Klaus as I am, Rebekah, we both know she won't side with Klaus over me. You and Klaus are alone, you chose your side. Tell Klaus if he wants Elena, he can come and try to take her, though he will have to come through me to get her" I shouted at him.
He opened his mouth to speak, but I was bored with talking, so I shot back at him, not seeing this coming, my claws bit into his flesh, digging deep. I span us both, slashing all over his body, blood, flesh and bone falling around us. He tried to pry me off of him, but I delivered a headbutt into his face, buying me a moment to drive him into the ground.
As he hit the ground I pressed my foot to his chest, repeating the actions he had taken against Damon. Bone cracked under my foot as I unleashed my full strength against my brother, I brought my foot up before bringing it down, again and again. Elijah tried to fight through the pain, attempting to overcome me, unsuccessfully he slashed at my legs. "Let me end this," I roared out in fury, while unsheathing my blade, before I began delivering slashes across his body. The blade cut burning gouges into his body, even with his enhanced regeneration working overtime, the wounds still gathered up, causing him immense pain.
I raised my hand to a table in the corner and pulled it, a leg of the table snapped off and shot into my hand. "You have grown weak in my absence, brother", I spat before driving the stake into his heart. It may not keep him down for long, but it would buy us a decent amount of time.
Sheathing my blade I walked over to Elena. As I approached, the young brunette doppelganger dived into my arms, "Asmund, you came," she said while burying herself into me. "Of course I did. Though we should not dally here too long, the stake won't keep him down for long," I spoke while leading Elena out of the house.
I looked back seeing both the Salvatore brothers following, injuries not fully healed. As we left the house, I pulled Elena up into my arms and shot into the air, my flight allowing me to move away from the house quickly. Though before I left, I sent a gust of flame at the building, covering up our presence there and hopefully keeping Elijah down for a bit longer. I cut through the air, Elena clutching to my chest, looking down, I saw the doppelganger's face, pure adoration filling it as we flew. "Thank you, Asmund" she whispered into my ear. "Your brother, he will come to Mystic Falls, won't he?" she asked me fear appearing in her voice.
"He will, though I have a plan for that" I stated. "A plan, what is it?" she asked, a bit of hope filling her face. "You want to be a vampire, don't you?" I asked, surprise showed on her face, but after a moment, she nodded "Yes, I want to be by your side for eternity", she admitted. "Then the plan is simple, you will continue to drink my blood, when Klaus comes to sacrifice you we will let it happen. You will come back as a vampire. That will let us get our ****," I explained, earning a confused look from Elena.
"How will that get us ****?" she asked. "My mother put a safety measure on the curse. He needs human doppelganger blood to turn werewolves into hybrids. I tried to reveal that to him centuries ago, but he did not listen; instead, he betrayed me and killed a good friend of mine in that betrayal. If you're a vampire, he can not create hybrids; he will be one, but his goal of making more like himself will be ruined. He will be truly alone for all time," I explained, watching as Elena's face turned from one of confusion to one of mild joy. "That is a good plan," she said, "your friend who was she?" Elena continued. "She was one of the syphons I turned into heratics, Anne. He killed her when she came to my defence," I expla ined, letting the conversation die out, replaced by silence.
