To what world will They go? Where are They pulled to?

Chapter 2: Detective Company

A sea of stars.

As endless as reality itself, but it had been so close… too close for comfort really, floating among the stars themselves They felt more alive, They felt disconnected, They felt real, They felt like a whisper that once said, it then disappeared becoming nothing in the world.

They felt like all time and reality were at their fingertips, that is, if They had fingers to begin with.

They didn’t know how long it had been since They had jumped into the beginning, and while it was relaxing and exhilarating for some reason, They wished for something more, maybe it was due to them being originally a human; now, they found Their being lacking, if the future of mankind was turning into energy beings, then it would be a very boring existence.

Maybe it was ingrained in their being, the wish for a corporeal form, to move and jump and talk and do all kinds of stupid things, maybe it was time to break the monotony and finally exist, finally get back into the saddle in a way, but how?

If They still had a body, They would have rolled their eyes, all of existence was there for Them to simply reach out… metaphorically speaking of course, They just needed to concentrate.

There were voices not too far, or maybe it was very far, distances were kind of not important when one was connected to it all thanks to the egg made of stars, but They began to focus on these voices, trying to get close.

Finally, They were able to pinpoint the location, and like a bullet they took off, again, it was a metaphor, but They finally felt something besides the eternal calm and quiet of reality, but it was voices, murmurs, not important to something that once had been human and now was more like reality itself, or maybe joined reality, hard to say.

They tried to find a focal point, something They could use to finally become more tangible, and then They found it, somewhere close, it was a…capsule of sorts? There was life inside, but it was so early that there was no soul in it, so maybe an embryo? But there was no mother, no father, there was something wrong because while it was growing, it had no life, so artificial, time to change that.

As the man kept monologuing (more like ranting really) to his archnemesis all the people inside the laboratory stopped what they were doing when all computers, analyzing and security devices began to flare to life, almost as if they were working extra hard just to keep tabs on what was going on.

In the large human sized capsule the experiment was growing, way faster than the man and all the scientists in the project expected, or even thought was possible, but right in front of them the small embryo was growing at such an exponential speed that all the machines were starting to fail, this was not possible! Computers broke down, all the machines trying to record what was going on went down, erasing all the information. There will be no way to explain this in scientific terms, but the humanoid inside the capsule was quickly becoming a young girl.

The girl opened her eyes and all but kicked the front of the capsule open, the alarms finally quieted down, either because there was no danger or because they had malfunctioned alongside everything else in the laboratory.

As the astounded people kept watching this miracle, the girl shook her head, sending her blonde hair flying around her, it had grown up to her shoulders in a messy style, she then yawned as if she was waking up from a nap, opened her eyes and finally paid attention to the people around her.

“What?” it was the only thing she said as she finally noticed those closer to her; there was a woman looking like a stereotypical sexy secretary, a bald man wearing a sharp dress looking at her as if she was a monster and also a… man wearing a blue and red suit floating slightly on the air with a red and yellow S proudly on his chest “oh you gotta be kidding me, really? Of all places?” She rolled her eyes at them before starting to walk in the direction of the exit. She will have enough time later to think about what is going on, for now she just wanted to get very far away from all the stupidity she had gotten herself in the middle of, because as far as she knew, these two men being in the same room only meant trouble.

Before she could take more than a few steps people in the laboratory finally reacted, with obvious security finally taking their guns out, pointing directly at her, just great, from one problem to another in the blink of an eye; she was out of sorts, really, but she was not going to die here, she had survived the end and beginning of reality itself to die in a place like this.

She had to get away from these idiots right now, because she didn’t find herself in the mood to search for another body, but she had to take care of this and just as the idiots began to press the trigger, completely disobeying the orders of who was obviously Lex Luthor (she could recognize that shiny bald head anywhere), something weird, well, weirder than finding herself with a new body alongside Lex Luthor and Superman, was the fact that everything around had slowed down to a crawl, she could see how slowly they were pressing the trigger, walking up to where the guards were, she had to wait a few seconds more to see the muzzle flash and a tiny lead ball coming out of the gun.

Touching one of the fired bullets, this one stood in the middle of the air after losing its momentum and she felt a rush of energy, a small one, but it kind of energized her? Looking at the other three guards and their guns she tried the same to the other bullets being fired, still amazed at the way the world was now in slow motion, or maybe she was the one way too fast?

She wanted to be away from all this problem, she needed time to think about what had happened, to her and existence itself.

Next thing she knew, she was out, on top of a building somewhere, in the distance, a building had the statue of a planet with a ring around it, the classic place of comics, the Daily Planet.

Maybe it was time to finally take a breather.
