Vanessa stared at her phone and debated about calling Candace. After all, she did have her phone number. All she’d have to do was push a button. It had been awhile since they last spoke, but… she did it.
“Hello?”
Vanessa was surprised to hear a mature young woman answer the phone. She sounded nothing like the whiney insecure teenager she had encountered years ago. “Candace? It’s Vanessa. I was wondering if maybe… you wanted to spend the summer with me?”
“Oh yes, please,” Candace said. “Ever since they went to college, they’ve been so boring. Text me a location and I’ll meet up with you.”
“Sounds like a plan,” Vanessa said.
They hung up and Vanessa sighed, thinking of where to go.
