Chapter 2 by Franktor Franktor

Who do you choose first

Ben Tennyson (age 18)

All around Bellwood, young couples were flourishing, going on dates with their significant others, hearts ablaze with the love and passion of youth. They were eager to live life to the fullest as soon as they could.

Ben Tennyson was no such exception to the phenomenon.

He and his girlfriend, Julie, were taking a walk under the moonlight, strolling through the park after a night of laughing together at the local diner over chili fries and milkshakes.

“…And then, do you remember my cousin Gwen?” Ben asked as he held Julie’s hand in his.

“Yeah, the… Red head?”

“Well, she goes up to the stage, but ends up forgetting her routine, so grandpa Max had to distract the audience to buy Gwen time, but he ended up causing the plumbing in the bathrooms to back up and overflow into the main stage room, and we all got kicked out of the convention!”

Julie gave a guffaw at that, “No way! He did that with all the bathrooms?”

“Every one!” Ben grinned, “Gotta say, that was the highlight of the great last summer vacation with him…”

Julie tightened her grip around Ben’s hand, “I’m sure your grandpa’s fine, Ben.”

Ben smiled sadly at the ground, clutching Julie’s hand tighter as well, “Yeah… He’s made of some tough stuff. Wherever he went… I just wish I could have gone with him.”

Julie pulled Ben close, wrapping her arm around him, “You still have me.”

Ben turned to her as they stopped walking, now standing in an open clearing between a big group of trees with the full moon shining down on them.

“I know.” He quoted, making her giggle before he pulled her into a hug. They stood there for a while, basking in each other’s warmth.

All around Bellwood, young couples looked for love and passion.

Ben was happy to say he succeeded in his search.

Ben was walking home, having completed a successful escort mission of one Miss Yamamoto back to her house, going through the same park they had traveled earlier that night.

He hummed to himself as he gazed up at the stars, watching as they twinkled and blinked in the night sky.

Out of the corner of his eye he spotted a streak of light, and he looked to see what looked like a slow moving shooting star, shining brightly and keeping his gaze.

“Woah! Don’t see those every night…” He muttered as he stopped to stare, “Make a wish, right?”

He was about to think on it, really, Ben intended to use his head for what his wish would be, but fate had different plans.

It took a second for Ben to be torn from his thoughts by the fact the shooting Star had changed direction. It took two seconds more for him to realize it was moving directly towards him. And on the fifth second after noticing it, he was finally reacting and running away, the meteor crashing into the ground behind him and digging a furrow in the ground to his side, and thankfully not squishing him.

Having tumbled at the end of his run, Ben picked himself up and quickly dusted himself off before looking to the end point of the furrow that was dug, getting closer to see a large metal sphere inside of it.

“Is that some kind of satellite?” He asked, a bit incredulous and in shock over what happened. Getting closer, he didn’t feel as much heat as he would’ve expected would come from a freshly fallen space object. It felt like the regular night air still.

As he finally stood in front of it, the metal panels seemed to fold in on themselves, unraveling to reveal what lay inside…

“A… A watch.” He deadpanned while he stared, “…Sure. That makes sense.”

Despite his confusion, Ben was still curious enough to reach a hand out to it. It couldn’t be that ba-

He flinched back as the watch moved, and before his arm could move more than an inch away, the watch jumped onto it, wrapping around his wrist.

And this was the part where Ben started screaming and trying to pull it off, running away from the big metal sphere.

What Does Ben Do?
