“Come with me.” Barbara stands up, and Kate follows her with a pastry in each hand, chewing. They go to the railing, and Barbara hits a switch. Lights snap on, illuminating a platform below.

“Are those robots?” Kate asks, startled.

There are several humanoid figures standing still, along with various training equipment. An elaborate obstacle course forms a circle around the ‘ring’ in the center. This system is mostly automated; it forces the user to fight off attackers, throw and utilize gadgets effectively, and demands **** agility. Even Bruce can’t complete it on its most difficult settings.

“Batman used to think that maybe he could come up with androids that could…” Barbara begins.

“What’s the difference between a robot and an android?” Kate interrupts.

“Don’t worry about it. It didn’t work out. The dummies aren’t ready for the field, but they work well for this.”

“This is Batman’s gym?”

“Pretty much,” Barbara tells her. “You’re going to use it.”

Kate nods.

“It’s like an old arcade game,” Barbara says. “It keeps score.”

“Who’s the top score? Batman?”

Barbara sighs. “No. It’s Robin. He topped Batman’s score before he left Gotham.”

“The first Robin? I’m impressed,” Kate says.

“They did call him the boy wonder,” Barbara tells her, feeling a little defensive.

“So Batman is second place. Who’s third?”

“I am.”

“Where am I?”

“Seventh. And you aren’t coming out with me again until you’re at least in fourth.”

Barbara expects Kate to push back, but she doesn’t.

“OK,” Kate agrees, a serious look on her face. She’s forgotten the pastries in her hands. “I saw this in Judge Dredd once.”

Barbara is lost in thought, but that gets her attention. “You what?”

“You know? Robots to help fight crime? And it doesn’t work out? Do you not read comic books?”

“I’m trying to get my doctorate,” Barbara says. What is Kate on about?

“Did you not have a childhood?”

“I did gymnastics.”

“I am so attracted to you right now.”

“Can you be serious?”

“I am. When do I start?” Kate asks, looking down at the training area.

“Now,” Barbara says, stepping away.

“But I already showered.”

“You can take another one,” Barbara says over her shoulder. She returns to the Bat Computer to get back to work. This thing with Ivy can go one of two ways, but in either case, Barbara will have to get into Arkham. Arrangements have been made in the past to let Batman into Arkham to hold a conversation, but that courtesy will not be extended to Batgirl. Barbara will have to sneak in.

Before that, she’ll have a choice to make about how to handle Ivy.

The best option will be to arrange something publicly with Wayne Enterprises. In exchange for her help on the Seed matter, Ivy can be moved from Arkham to Wayne Enterprises, where she’ll still be held securely, but she’ll have better accommodations and the potential to be a huge feather in Barbara Gordon’s cap as well as a boon to Wayne Enterprise’s R&D department. However, she won’t be able to leave Wayne Tower except in disguise. And if she’s not dealing in good faith, that could backfire spectacularly.

The other option is for Batgirl to break her out of Arkham and hide her here, in the cave. In that event, Ivy would be a direct aid to Barbara in terms of technology and maybe even in the field, if Barbara plays her cards right. This will not improve Batgirl’s image. It carries similar risks, although they are less public in nature.

The two approaches include two areas for Barbara to consider: her level of trust in Ivy and the kind of help that she wants from Ivy. Cutting a deal to get Ivy moved to Wayne Tower would be using Ivy to help the environment and making Ivy into Barbara Gordon’s ally. Breaking her out and moving her to Batcave would be making her an ally to Batgirl.

That is, if Barbara can keep her loyalty.

Barbara frowns at the schematics of Arkham, rubbing her chin.

“Babs!” Kate shouts from the steps, startling her.

Annoyed, Barbara turns to look. “What?” she shouts back. Kate is dressed to train.

“You doing anything later?”

What kind of question is that? Barbara needs to rest. She’s not fully recovered. She’s full of ****.

But the band-aid is already off. The cat is out of the bag. She can’t try to act cool or classy now and professionalism of any kind is completely off the table. Barbara used to blame Bruce for his lapses and compromises, but she’s beginning to understand.

She’s supposed to be resting, so she lets Kate do the work in the very sleeping quarters that Ivy will occupy if she's brought here. Kate trained for three hours, but she’s still not out of energy. And Barbara was able to figure out her plan for Arkham.

Barbara’s naked on her back, biting her lip and staring at Kate’s ass as the other woman rocks her hips urgently. Barbara never expected to see reverse cowgirl from this angle.
