Arc 5: Taking Over Toru

After a nice shower, putting on clothes, and some little dinner, I went upstairs, opening my bedroom. "You can stay here." Suddenly she would come close to the bed, inspecting it in a strange fashion.

"... How many girls have been here?"

"Not answering that."

"... How many boys?" I squinted at her before rolling my eyes. "Today was really fun, Jack; it was great. We should do it again one day. Oh, and also... Could you maybe brush my hair for me?"

"Oh, right, we never did that. Sure, let's get to it." I grabbed the brush, got behind her, and started to do her hair, slowly to not entangle her hair and pull it off or hurt her. If I am honest, it's been a while since the last time I got to do this for someone. It was nice to spend time doing girly things once in a while; I always found them endearing. Maybe I should do my nails one day with Momo or go shopping with Tsuyu too; it's so refreshing to just hang out like this.

"Hey, uhm—is my hair really that messy?"

"As much as mine, yeah! But once more I do it by choice; my unkempt hair adds a more animalistic, alpha, werewolf male to my look."

"I will assume you are joking."

"And makes it fluffy; bitches loooooove fluffy hair."

"I hope that isn't referring to me."

"No. No, god no, it's a joke; I swear it's a joke. Sorry."

"Heh, fine... Hey, can you, uhm, do braids?"

"Yes, but it might take a while; you have quite the long hair."

"How about ponytails? No wait, even I can do that... How about fishtails?"

"Fish-what?"

"Or a ponytail plait or maybe something like a fancy bun!"

"Give me a second to tell you I don't know those hairstyles."

"How about I show you?" She opened up her phone to let me see what she had there; it was different hairstyles. Seeing the tabs on the page as well, she had clothing, makeup tips, and lots of fashion tips as well. She was really into clothing and mode, I guess... No, it was more than that; it was looking pretty, looking while being unseen... I see what this was now.

"Hey, let me tell you that I am not good at this, but if you show me the hairstyle you want and you are willing to let me use my quirk on your hair, as in not resist it, I can get you any hairstyle you want in around 30 minutes or 1 hour."

"Any I want?" She said with such excitement on her face; I could tell by her facial features thanks to my quirk.

"Any you want!" She grabbed her phone and started to look around for something she had been wanting to try for a good while.

"G-give me a moment; this is an important moment for me."

"Take your time. Hey, can I ask you... You said you needed to redirect a light or laser to see yourself, right?"

"Yup, when my quirk glitches is when I am under an intense amount of light, in this case reflecting lasers, something I learned by chance, haha."

"By chance I see... Why not— Sorry, uhm, just thinking, have you tried replicating this before?"

"There was a student before that was able to make me glitch out, but he left."

"Oh, the Aoyama spy guy, right?"

"Y-yes, but he is not bad if you heard he was bad."

"I did not hear such a thing; I haven't known much about him, if I am honest; probably Sirli knows more than I do."

"Well, yeah, that's the only way I am able to see myself, or sort of."

"Sort of?"

"I saw myself a few times in the mirror before he left, but I couldn't picture myself well; it's like I had bits of memory missing of who I was, not sure how to call them, but it's like I cannot remember what I look like. Everyone sees themselves so often that they could trace and perfectly say how they look to others, but I have troubles. I want to maybe be able to see myself every day... O-one day, I mean, haha."

"I see..." I noticed her still searching for hairstyles. "Hey, be right back, okay? You keep searching; I need to check on whatever nuclear bomb or Lain project Sirli is doing with all these cables and stuff."

"Sure, go ahead!" I went out of the room and moved away from the bedroom to the other room that was supposed to be empty, finding Sirli with around 5 computers on and typing away. "Hey, so, uhh, are you winning, son?"

"What?"

"You know, like the meme."

"... I am a woman, Jack. I know that my lack of feminine attributes might throw you off, but calling me son—"

"It's a joke—never mind. What's all this?"

"I am spying on your dad's wallet, crypto, stocks, and movements. I need you to go out tomorrow towards Mount Fuji to check on something going on there before the property is removed. Sorry I had to move so fast, but my presence was noticed yesterday most likely."

"... I am trying so hard to understand what you said in that last sentence."

"I need you to do something for me tomorrow at night; take your master or your girlfriends or whoever you want with you too."

"To climb Mount Fuji? I will have to tell Aizawa about this."

"Tell him hell take him with you for all I care."

"Uhm, is everything okay?"

"I am a bit stressed, but yes, I am fine. I will go to sleep with you and the invisible girl in a moment."

"Oh, you noticed... Also, don't say it like that; it sounds like you are about to do stuff. How could you tell Toru was here"

"I saw a floating towel, so either you became invisible or the invisible girl was here." She handed me two cups of instant ramen. "For you and her, I guess."

"Have you eaten properly today?"

"Properly as in nutritious? Not really."

"Let me order something then."

"No need; I don't want to eat right now. Now that you saw what I am doing, you can go back to having sex with her; just don't make it too loud."

"I AM NOT—I mean, not here, not right now."

"Oh, so what is this then?"

"... Sleepover?"

"Hey, speaking of... How much would it be to make a laser?"

"A powerful weapon laser that is able to shoot a powerful BUT harmless light to, let's say, make this invisible girl visible again."

"It can be done, but we don't know how the light affects her quirk, does it?"

"It makes it glitchy, and then she becomes visible," she told me as she reflected lasers in the past and turned visible that time.

"Yes, but the issue is that we don't really know what her quirk can reflect. By example, let's assume that I bring Blast here and he obliterates Toru. Would she be able to reflect that? Obliteration IS a laser in its own way, a really incandescent hot scorching burn skinning laser. Like, would shining a light with the same total energy output as him work?"

"She used Aoyama's laser; you know who he is, right?"

"Yes, the spy from U.A. I read an article about him. I am insulted that he is not being trailed under the charge of betrayal, showing how little care they gave to what he did."

"He was a kid, you know."

"... I don't care; stuff could've happened, stuff could've been avoided."

"You are thinking of Trivia again, right? Is that why?"

"Let's go back to the topic. How do we know it's not Aoyama's quirk that makes her visible? Perhaps something about their quirks clashing. Would shining a light of the same concentration work and make her visible again?"

"How about forcing an awakening? Would that work?"

"You cannot force an awakening of a quirk, Jack, or are you suggesting beating her to almost death; even then we are not sure that would make her visible again."

"Okay, can you make her quirk glitch then?"

"Yes."

"Why didn't you say so instead of talking about maybe's, would've's, could've's?"

"You spoke about lasers and your idea. I just wanted to let you know that it had some holes, but yes, I can imitate Aoyama's quirk and make it so the light that hits her makes her invisibility glitch, dilute, and make her visible again. Sort of. More like translucent."

"Okay, thank you... No need to school me. So would this gadget make her visible whenever she wants, right?"

"PFT HAHAHAHA NO?!" She looked happy about suddenly shutting my idea down.

"Why that reaction?"

"Her quirk is a mutant quirk; even if I were to somehow, let's say, find a vaccine able to let her control her quirk, it would be impossible for her to control her visibility. It just cannot be done. It's amusing how little you know about her; that's why I find it funny... Is that something rude now that I think about it? Was it rude to laugh?"

"Yes, very rude; that's messed up, even if you think it's funny to mock me for being dumb... Okay, so how can we make her permanently visible whenever she wants?"

"Oh, that's easy; find a vaccine to delete quirks from the DNA, and you are done."

"... What?"

"Something wrong?"

"Y-you are saying she cannot control it? Like, her best option is deleting her quirk."

"Nope, not even if she were to awaken it; in fact, I run tests and ideas for awakenings of each U. A student, if she were to awaken her quirk, I am sure she would be able to simulate an invisibility field around her and control the light that hits the surrounding area and reflect it; it would be quite powerful, but she would never be able to make herself visible. The best I can do is build a gadget that makes her visible for a few minutes, that laser you speak of, but unless you find a drug able to erase quirks, that's a no; she will never become visible permanently."

"I—I understand. Sorry to bother you."

"Why is it that you want to turn her visible?"

"She wants to be seen by others."

"... I see... Is this something related to her as well?"

"Her? Well, yeah, Toru talked—"

"Not Toru..." She turned to look at me. "Portis."

"... Maybe, Portis's case is different; one wants to be seen, the other has to be seen."

"Hmmmm, well, funny enough, the answer for both of them is to erase their quirks. Sorry, I cannot help you with more for a permanent solution because there isn't one."

"Okay, I understand. But I still want you to do me that favor, the favor of a gadget able to project that light."

"I can do that. I can make a list and you buy it. I can build it; it's not hard if I am honest. I have always been wanting to run tests on them as well. Maybe you can help out the Bakugo kid next and get me some of his sweat quirk"

"I—honestly don't like the guy, so that's a no on me."

"Fair enough. It's nice you are trying to help Jack."

"It's nice that you admit it's nice."

"You are doing well; keep it up, okay?"

"Uhm—Thanks."

"Just so you know, for the item to be used in the future, it would need a recharge time of 30 hours."

"Uuuuuh"

"No, there is no way to shorten it without melting or short-circuiting the light. It will also be a bit big; you want a laser that doesn't hurt her or hurt a building but also makes her glitch out. I will give it to you; just don't expect it to be the most functional nor comfortable to use."

"That's fine, you do you... And I will help with the Fuji stuff later if that's fine."

"How later?"

"One or two days?"

"Acceptable, I will send the list to your phone and join you both in bed in an hour."

I opened the door to find Toru standing in the hallway with her phone open. "Ah Jack! Sorry, I found the haircut I wanted." She looked over my shoulder to see Sirli on the floor; Sirli waved at her. "Hi there, my name is Toru Hagakure."

"I know... Call me Sirli."

"Hi—She seems nice."

"Nicer than you think." I looked at the hairstyle; it reminded me of the hairstyle an elf would wear, making me smile. "That's rather a bit complex for me."

"S-so you can't?"

"Never said that. Let's go back to the bedroom." Once inside there, I looked at the picture alongside a tutorial, placing my hand on Toru's scalp as she grew nervous. "It's fine; you will feel your hair moving like snakes, though, so try to not fight it much."

"I promise I will remain as still as I can."

"That's all I need." It took a good while for me to get the hairstyle she wanted as perfect as she wanted. We made small conversation, talking about our dreams, aspirations, what we wanted to do in the future, and expectations—the usual talk I had with Ochaco and Tsuyu and other girls before; really nothing out of the ordinary. As it was getting late at night I was finally able to finish what I wanted to do which was her hairstyle.

"Is it done?"

"Almost... Perfect"

"How's it look?" I felt bad about her not being able to see herself but looking at her with the new hairstyle she had, it only made me smile as I answered again.

"Perfect."

"Are you all presentable?" Sirli stepped into the room out of the blue.

"We are, yes, once more not doing anything with you here."

"Good to know. I will sleep in the middle; I like to feel safe when I sleep."

"Uuuuh. What?" Toru looked confused, as I had forgotten to explain to her.

"Sirli has been having trouble sleeping on her own, so she is staying with me."

"But didn't you sleep at the academy yesterday?"

"It's fine I didn't sleep yesterday; I set up the computer all night yesterday and worked all day, so I am exhausted." Sirli just got under the blankets, lying there.

"So, um—are we supposed to cuddle her?" Toru asked as she pointed at her.

"Do not touch me, please."

"That's a no... Don't question it too much; just sleep on your side and I on mine. I will make a nice breakfast in the morning."

"Good night, Toru, Sirli."

"Good night, you two." Sirli said, almost falling immediately to sleep.

"Can't say this is my weirdest sleepover yet; good night, guys." Toru went ahead and slept as well.

The morning after

I was down in the kitchen preparing everything for the day; later, Sirli approached me with a list. "Holy shit, this is a lot of money."

"Never said it was free."

"Yeah, I know, but this is about half of my funds."

"You can always get more funds; take advantage of your dad."

"No, yeah, that makes sense. I will be getting a million dollars soon anyways thanks to the directives."

"Hm? Didn't know you signed a contract with them."

"Sign what now?"

"Uh oh." Toru came downstairs, interrupting the conversation.

"What's for breakfast?"

"Waffles and... yeah, waffles and coffee. We are running a bit late; you might want to shower in the meantime."

"Sure!" She left for the shower as I stood there staring at Sirli.

"How long would it take you to build this if I get you everything tonight?"

"Around 8 hours"

"Oh... Uh, that's surprisingly fast?"

"Well, most of the things needed come already with the equipment; I am just setting it up and tweaking it. You are doing a nice thing, Jack."

"I am a nice guy—Actually, no, never mind, don't, don't say that; nice guys are weird."

"Are you talking about internet slang? Because if so, I am understanding what a nice guy is."

"I wish you would talk more normally."

"I, uh, would like to apologize for my lack of normalcy."

"No, no, don't say that. Now I look like a douchebag for suggesting that was a problem."

"But it is a problem."

"Nooouuuuh..."

"Regardless, 2-3 days for you to help me back."

"Oh yeah, that thing at Mount Fuji, what's up? What did you find?"

"One of your parent's construction partners alongside a side project is being made, but the project suddenly partnered up with 4 hero agencies, and they are syphoning money into it. If I were to guess, they are making something big there, something that also relates to heroes, and to top it off, one of his bank accounts practically took out one of the biggest amounts of cash yet to be seen, almost as if he were saving it for something. He is going to buy something really big, not sure what. I'm trying to see any branch in the market, or product, or investment he could get. I feel he is about to do something big, Jack."

"Is it more important than the light machine?"

"I will tell you what: you give me the money for the objects that will help Toru turn visible for a few minutes, and I will go buy them, and you go there tonight. I don't know who you will take, but just go there with someone you trust. Deal?"

"Sure, fuck it. When was the last time I died, right?"

"That's the spirit; get yourself some plane tickets while you are at lunch. Also get your master there; I would like it if you go with someone strong."

"Why not ask someone at U.A.? You said someone I trust"

"..." Sirli looked to the side; she truly had some dislike towards the U.A. kids.

"They are not so bad."

"No, no, I know it's just... They are not us, Jack. I said the red guy, Kirishima because I fancy him, I like him physically but I wouldn't date him. I would never consider them to be like us."

"By 'us' you mean Nemo Academy?"

"More like, made like us. I prefer you took this in a way that a mercenary would not a hero, if you know what I mean."

"So you want me to do like 'Blackout' and hurt whoever I have to hurt and leave the place?"

"Not like that, no, but just—don't expect to go out there to help people; this is a mission to gather intelligence. Please just go with someone that I can trust."

"Why not someone I trust? Everyone there is awesome."

"Why are you fighting me on this even after I am helping you?"

"Because I dislike how you are judging them, they are not bad."

She sighed. "I never said they are bad, Jack. Listen to me for once and focus. You are not doing hero work; you are doing the usual work we are sent to do, please... Just go with your master." It almost sounds like she was setting me up, but I knew she meant no malice.

"Fine, I will do it."

"Thank you."

"Let me get some waffles out so we can eat and leave."

On the way to school

"Thanks for making the uniform, Jack."

"Best use of my quirk, changing things into other things. Now you have two sets of school uniforms, pretty cool, right?"

"Yup, and the pleated skirt looks great!"

"You look happier."

"That's because I look very pretty today."

"Still very invisible, you know? Not saying that you are not pretty just, that... You know, I am killing the mood ignore me."

"I know, but it's okay."

"Why is that?"

"Because I know there is someone who can see me, and as long as one person knows how I look, I am happy." She looked back at me, flashing a beautiful smile made me feel flustered, this feeling was something I haven't felt in a good while.

"Well, I will make sure to not hurt myself so much so I can always see you then."

"Can't lie, that sounds fun." I felt like I was doing the right thing for once; it was nice, it was great, I felt... Amazing.

"Also, the others are coming back today."

"Ah shit... Tsuyu is going to scold me so harshly."
