Chapter 2

What's next?
Ambushed by goblins
As if to confirm my words, a loud cry followed by wet chittering came from the surrounding bushes. The sound is not quite laughter, not quite speech, but something between, as an army of green, stout, pencil nosed creatures emerged. Each one, pale fleshed, streaked with filth and old blood, yellowed teeth bared in twisted smiles.
Some of them are moving on all fours, others hunched and creeping upright. Their movements are unnaturally fluid, muscles rippling beneath patchy, mottled skin, despite their small stature. Some have eyes milky and blind, others sunken deep into skulls stretched tight with hunger. Their teeth are filed to cruel points, lips drawn back in permanent snarls. A sickly-sweet musk emanates from them, like rotting meat covered in honey.
One of the nearest ones tilts its head, ears twitching as if tasting the air. "Ahhhh," it hisses at me, voice like wet stones grinding together. "Ahhhh... the elf-witch." The creature's voice echoing around the clearing, its words dripping with malice that makes my skin crawl. Behind the speaking goblin, even more begin emerging from the shadows, their claws scraping against stone and bark.
"We were expecting you," the lead creature continues, its filed teeth gleaming in the dim evening light.
"Well that's surprising, since I literally just got here." I struggle to contain my obvious nerves. Where they really expecting me? What the hell had Ceridwen get me into?
"Oh, but we were. See, here's you is, just as the boss lady said you's be." The lead goblin seemed very pleased with himself.
I try to step back, feeling the tree trunk at my back as the horde of little green fuckers moved closer to me. They were the predators of this forest and I was clearly their intended prey. Was this some sort of trap? Had that so called goddess set me up just to fall at this first hurdle? My mind was racing, unsure what to think, what to do. This second life was starting to feel even more unfair than the first.
"Who's this boss lady?" I ask, hoping to keep the their leader talking.
Getting a better look at the goblins, i could see more variation in appearance. Some had hooked noses, others had black beady eyes, all were naked say for a few in loincloths. Each one held some sort of makeshift or possibly hand made weapon. The leader was covered in what I hoped was mud, a heavy scar across his face forcing one eye to be only half open. He gnarled and screamed at the others in some sort of gibberish that I could only assume was their language before answering.
"Boss lady is not concern o' yours elfy bitch! You belong to Gobspit clan now. You is new breeder! And breeders take gobo cock, not ask questions." The lead goblin suddenly looked very angry. I'm guessing I had said something to upset him. This boss lady was obviously a big deal to the goblins.
"Look, you gentlemen seem to have the wrong person. I'm not joking when I say, I, literally, just appeared, in this world. There is no way anyone could be expecting me!" Nerves were starting to get the better of me as my eyes frantically seached for an escape. The extra weight on my chest, labouring each breath as I fought against the grown desire to panic.
The goblins continued to surround and enclose around me. Desire plastered across each of the beady little faces. I couldn't tell if it was lust or hunger, but if I didn't think of something fast, I was about to find out.
