Chapter 20

What's next?
All good things are round three?
Given how, at least comparatively, none of Sabrina's cards had been particularly cruel yet, she was beginning to feel a unexpected level of excitement leading into the third round. Her sister got a much needed wardrobe update. Camila got a killer ass. Troy was looking like a total hunk. Even her mother had been upgraded and didn't have a stick up her ass anymore. Sure, the game seemed to have it in for Sam and Harry, but she was neither of them, although she'd prefer it if her boyfriend didn't look so androgynous.
They'd played two rounds by the time Sabrina sat at the cusp of the third, starting to feel like a break was in order. The only thing keeping her from proposing a breather was her sister's tone at the end of her turn, basically demanding that they continue with the game. She was sure that others were equally keen on taking a short break. "One more round" she convinced herself, after which she'd take a break no matter what her sister thought of it. Having your body and mind changed on a whim was equally as exhilarating as it was stressful. Of course, not everyone shared that mindset. Both Troy and Sam found it more terrifying than fun, for good reason..
Looking over to her boyfriend, Sabrina was given a reassuring nod before eventually reaching out for the die. Even in this stupid game, her sister had found a way to upstage her, getting a second die to throw for the entire game. No matter, it didn't matter who reached the finish line first so long as Sabrina could get rid of her permanent clothing restriction, although the wish at the end was very appealing.
"Alright. You asked for it. Third round, let's go.."
Sabrina half excitedly tossed the die, hoping for a high roll and a good card. Her hopes were swiftly crushed as she saw the dreaded single pip facing up towards her, mockingly.
"You've gotta be fucking kidding me!"
She winced at her own exclamation, looking over to her sister and mother, fully expecting either one of them to shout "Language!" or something. But such a comment never came, they both looked back at her quizzingly, wondering why she was looking at them expectantly.
"Got something on my face or something?"
Katt wasn't too happy about being ogled by her sister. Especially when that sister was supposed to expedite the long and tedious process which was getting to the end of the game quickly.
"-No, it's nothing.."
That's when it dawned on Sabrina just how serious this game had to be taken. Her sister and mother had both seemingly been changed a lot. Even if it was as mundane as calling her out on bad language, it was a core part of their family dynamic. What was even the point of being the black sheep, of being rebellious when they didn't even care anymore?
After pulling herself back to the graveness of reality, Sabrina picked up a red card, still very much upset about her poor roll.
As your boyfriend slowly ebbs towards the fairer,
of the dominant role you will be the bearer.
Some are leaders, while others are sheep.
To the dominant side, you shall now leap.
Do you continue or chicken out?
"..Shots fired?"
Camila shot in her usual snarky comment from the sidelines, being mildly amused by how brutal the game was being to Sam, even during Sabrina's turn of all times. Not being completely satisfied with her own changes, she welcomed a laugh at someone else's expense. Seeing how she'd lost her beloved bust, that probably would come as no surprise. Misery truly did love company, especially when the misery of others is greater than that of oneself.
"Doesn't take a genius to figure this one out, I continue!"
Upon uttering her words of intent, the card burst into a burning light of crimson, leaving nothing behind but the brief spectacle of instantaneous combustion. No heat was emitted, and no evidence of the card's existence remained. Still, that didn't stop her from flinching, still not used to the mystical nature of the game's magic.
Standing up from her previously seated position, Sabrina turned her gaze down at herself, looking for any changes that may occur.
"The changes aren't physical, dumbo. There's nothing to see. At best, you might feel them!"
Despite having undergone no mental changes of her own, even Camila knew not to look for any physical manifestations following the incineration of a red card. Both she and Sabrina were no strangers to "smack talk", it being a central part of their friendship and all. But Sabrina's reaction to her BFF's playful, if not a little sharp words was not in accordance to her usual self.
"As if I didn't know that, skank. I was just ..getting a feel for them!"
A total lie, obviously. She'd completely forgotten that red cards were strictly mental. A brain-fart she was much too proud to admit to making. So, she lied. Even going as far as attacking her friend verbally to assert herself. Her response, as Camila also noticed, wasn't in line with the usual banter the two had going between each other. Her tone was much different, as if she was talking down to her Latina counterpart.
Sabrina wasn't put off in the slightest by her own outburst, even wondering if she went too easy on her friend.

If it wasn't already painfully clear what the card had done to her, her body language emphasized her newly acquired dominant personality. Not that Sabrina wasn't already used to being at the higher of the social-food chain, but now she desired to be at the top, even amongst the people she used to consider her peers.
Sabrina remained standing just long enough for it to get awkward, feeling more at ease when she was elevated higher than the others around her.
"Are you gonna sit down or what? We'd like to continue playing, if you'd be so benevolent as to allow it.."
"Fine, but not because you asked!"
It was almost comical to watch her make every little interaction a power struggle. Hadn't the group known it was a consequence of the game, they probably wouldn't have let it slide so easily. But as they all knew from watching Sabrina ruin half her wardrobe trying to fight the magic of the game, there wasn't much point in struggling. The only way out was to finish the game and get the wish.
"So.. Who's next in line again?"

Chicken out: The game
A simple transformative game of chicken
Welcome to chicken out! The game so good we spun it off unchanged!! Based on the concept of Mr_Anderson. This is a game of chicken. The players each take turns rolling a die, their game piece moves accordingly and they draw a card based on the color they land on. The cards contain a text with transformative properties. After reading the card, the player can then choose to either continue or chicken out. Easy, right?
