A visitor at the tech shop

The first week flew by as Jack started his job at the tech repair shop, He would come in during the morning and would not leave until mid afternoon. This would end up encourage Ms. Smith, or Nicole as she liked Jack to call her, to ask Jack to stay for dinner with her and Olivia, but Jack always declined giving an excuse to run back home. He would arrive back home just in time for his mother to be done cooking, or for takeout to arrive and he would join his mom and sister in the kitchen before both him and his sister skulked back to there bedrooms, always living his mom alone for the evening. While in his room he would sneak out his window and into the shed to work on his dad's invention making slow but consistent progress each day.

By now this had become routine for him and everyone else involved, but today things would be different, because today the shop would receive a unique visitor. while working and sitting at the front counter Jack heard the ring of the door as a young woman came walking in. looking up from his work he saw a young, cute, petite girl with long dirty blond hair that fell to her mid back. She was wearing colorful striper shorts, a white tank top and jean jacket, and before Jack could say anything she was already at the counter.

"Umm... can I get my laptop fixed" she said with a soft voice while placing her laptop onto the counter.

"Oh... ya just give me a second" Jack said, stiffening in his chair and swiveling over to a computer and started to say "Ok, I just need to know some information, name, phone number, issues with the computer, so on", before he was interrupted by the girl. "Jack don't you remember me?" she said looking at him with a stare. And suddenly Jack took a closer look and realized who he was talking to. Her name was Evelyn, she was a classmate of Jack who he had a crush on for a while, but had not interacted with her for the past year. "Oh... sorry Evelyn" he said stuttering.

"Its ok, I know we haven't seen each other in a while so..." she responded while runner her hand through her hair and looking away from his gaze. "...Anyway my number is..." she stated as she began to ramble off the key details to Jack, who began to type them in.

She was right, Jack had not seen her in years, not since middle when they spent almost everyday with each other. They used to be the best of friends bonding over mutual interests like nerd culture, robotics, and video games. She used to be one of the nerd girls in school and was by no means popular. But that all changed when she went through puberty over the summer and her looks completely changed along with her leaving behind Jack to be one of the popular kids. since then they only share glances in the hall and passing conversation when in classes together.

"OK, now that I have all the information to contact you, what exactly might be the issue?" Jack said turning back to face Evelyn. "Oh... umm... well I had been browsing on the internet and suddenly my computer blue screened and I have been unable to get it working since" she shyly responded to his question. "so would you guys be able to fix it?" she then asked.

"Well we will have to take a look, and we will message you when we know what's wrong or have fixed it" Jack responded to her question and placed a bar code sticker on her laptop.

"Thanks Jack, call me when its fixed, and I hope to see you around" she said with a smile and a wink before turning around and walking out of the store with a pep in her step.

A while later at the shop

John had sat down in the back room of the shop while Olivia sat at the front counter on her phone and Ms. Smith was out for time. He had pulled Evelyn's laptop off of the rack of in progress repair orders and set everything up we surmised it would need to repair it. The first steps he took was making sure it batter still held power, which it did, and that the main components of the laptop worked, which they did as well. Not having any luck getting the laptop to run for him he figured it must be some sort of malware issue affecting the display. He proceeded to hook the hardrive up to a separate computer and display and spent a half hour or so trying to get it to boot up the screen came on with the classic windows theme and logo.

After assuring that it would not suddenly shutdown on him or crash Jack started the diagnosis and repair process. He went through digging into all the nooks and crannies to find any malware or virus and remove it. After tirelessly trying to find it he eventually he decided to let a virus removal program remove it and waited for it to finish. Once the computer had been repair he decided to take a look at what Evelyn has on her laptop that might have caused the issue and so he opened up her browser of choice and reloaded the previously open tabs before the crash and was shocked to see what was looking at.

Projected across the monitor in front of him was nothing more than grade A porn. All the while Jack had stayed in the back, continuing to work away, sorting parts, or repair more computers, but as Evelyn left, Olivia came walking into the back.

"Hey Jack, this is for you apparently" she said handing him a slip of paper "seems miss popular was very thankful for your work" saying as she turned and walked back to the front counter. On the slip was a little note from Evelyn and her phone number, (Tank you for fixing my laptop, if you wanna hang out sometime just call me XOXO). Jack was stunned at what he was holding he had never had anyone ask him to hang out like that, and a girl of all people, and a girl he liked was a start.

Jack proceed to focus on work for the rest of the day but planned to give Evelyn a call the next, especially since it would be Saturday and he would have the day off. His heart was beating in anticipation to spend time with a long past friend and a girl he found attractive.
