A terrifying view

What you see sends shivers down your spine.

She is now some sort of monstrous wasp-like creature, with only a few recognizable features of a Beedrill. Her body is much larger, her limbs are elongated and twisted, and her once-familiar carapace has transformed into a grotesque, heavily armored exoskeleton. Her two enormous spear-like arms are thicker and more menacing than before, while her wings beat slowly behind her, keeping her massive body suspended above the ground.

And... scattered across the ground are the remnants of several yellow carapaces.

"Oh God..." you mutter.

"I think... I'm gonna puke" Midori says, visibly shaken.

Before you can fully take in the scene, your instincts warn you of danger.

"We... don't have time to think about what happened... we gotta handle this even though... i doubt we can save her" you say.

"Y-yeah... you're right" Midori says as you both get up, though she is visibly a little shaken.

You summon your charmander dual blades and then charge at the beast.

You grab Midori's arm and pull her aside just as one of the monster's enormous spear arms thrusts through the space where you were standing.

"We... don't have time to think about what happened... We have to handle this, even though... I doubt we can save her" you say.

"Y-Yeah... you're right" Midori replies as you both get back on your feet, though she is visibly shaken by what you have just witnessed.

You summon your Charmander dual blades and charge at the beast.

You slash at her, but your first attack is blocked by one of her enormous spear arms. The second spear immediately comes from behind the first, aiming straight for you.

Midori reacts instantly.

One of her vines wraps around your waist and yanks you backward, causing the spear to miss you by inches.

Midori then unleashes a cloud of paralyzing spores.

The beast beats her wings violently, creating a powerful gust that scatters the spores before they can reach her.

While she is distracted, you quickly switch weapons and summon the Squirtle water revolver.

You find an opening and fire.

The water bullet strikes the creature directly in the eye.

The monster lets out a horrible screech and recoils in pain.

You immediately take advantage of the opening.

The revolver disappears, replaced by the Bulbasaur sword.

You rush forward and slash at her legs and arms several times. Your attacks aren't strong enough to cut through her thick armor completely, but they weaken her limbs and slow her movements.

"Now!"

Midori summons several thick vines that wrap around the creature's neck.

With all her strength, she pulls.

The enormous beast loses her balance and crashes heavily onto the ground.

Midori summons more vines from the ground to tie its body.

"We... got her..." Midori says, struggling to keep the massive creature restrained. "But now... what do we do?"

"I... don't think we can bring her back," you say quietly. "I guess I have to put her to rest."

"I... understand."

You slowly approach the creature, trying to mentally prepare yourself for what you are about to do.

But then...

The beast releases a deafening, ear-splitting scream.

You and Midori instinctively cover your ears.

And that's all the opening she needs.

With a sudden burst of strength, the creature tears herself free from the vines.

Before you can react, one of her massive spear arms swings toward you.

Instead of stabbing you, she strikes you with the flat, circular base of the spear, like being hit by the broad side of a gigantic hammer.

You are sent flying sideways and crash heavily onto the ground.

The beast immediately takes flight again and rushes toward Midori.

"Dammit!" Midori fires a barrage of Razor Leaves.

Several leaves slice into the creature, but they aren't enough to stop it.

"No, wait!" you scream.

The monster raises one of her spear arms and prepares to impale Midori.

You quickly summon your Rattata weapon and use its increased speed.

You sprint toward them.

Just before the attack can hit Midori, you throw yourself between them and shove her out of the way.

And then... The spear pierces your back.

The scream echoes outside the hive.

The moment the Beedrills hear it, their bodies begin to transform.

Insect-like pincers appear over their mouths.

Their bodies suddenly twist and morph, their natural armor becoming thicker and more resistant. Small spikes grow along their spear arms, making their attacks even more dangerous.

"Something's going on! Everyone, watch out!" Marcy screams.

The Beedrills suddenly dart toward them.

Amber barely manages to teleport away in time.

The spot where she was floating a moment earlier is completely destroyed by the Beedrill's strike.

Leaf quickly creates a barrier of rock between herself and her opponent.

The Beedrill easily pierces through it, but at least the barrier slows the attack enough for Leaf to avoid being hit.

Sig manages to block her opponent's strike, but the sheer force of the attack sends her sliding backward.

But the worst happens to Marcy.

The Beedrill aims directly for Charlie.

Charlie isn't fast enough to avoid the attack.

Marcy immediately steps between them.

She manages to partially block the strike, but not completely.

The spear pierces through her shoulder.

"Argh!" Marcy groans in pain as blood drips from the wound and the Beedrill quickly retreats.

"Marcy, no!" Charlie screams.

"It's... fine..." Marcy says through gritted teeth. "A little poison won't stop me."

Despite the pain, she keeps her stance and raises her hammer again.

"Looks like it's not finished yet," Leaf says. "We'll have to keep going until they can't move."

The battle outside resumes.

You lie on the floor of the hive.

The spear has pierced through your back, but thanks to the resistance of the coat Katy made for you, it barely passes through your body. The damage is serious, but thankfully not immediately fatal.

The real problem is the poison.

You can already feel it spreading through your system.

"Erik... Erik! Please, answer me!"

Midori kneels beside you, tears streaming down her face.

"I'm sorry! I wasn't able to help you... and now... and now..."

You weakly reach out and grab her hand, trying to calm her down.

"I... I'll heal you... You won't die here! You're the hero!"

She immediately begins casting her healing spell.

Warm green energy surrounds your body.

Your wounds slowly begin to close, but the poison doesn't weaken.

Instead, the corrosive venom continues spreading through your body.

You cough and spit blood onto the ground.

"No... no... It's not working..." Midori says desperately. "Why isn't it working?!"

The enormous creature begins slowly approaching you again.

Midori closes her eyes.

She takes several deep breaths, trying to regain her concentration.

Then she grits her teeth and increases the power of her spell.

"This... won't end here!"

Her voice trembles, but she refuses to stop.

"We still have an adventure to live... and a life to live together after this! I will save you!"

The beast raises one of her enormous spear arms.

Midori's mana suddenly surges.

A powerful wave of green energy erupts from her body, that also makes the beast step back.

The healing spell intensifies.

You feel something change.

The poison inside your body begins to disappear. Your wounds rapidly close and the pain fades.

Your breathing becomes easier... And finally, your vision clears.

You look at Midori and... Something is different.

She has evolved!

Her posture has changed as well. Her body remains naturally lowered, with her legs bent and her stance closer to the ground, giving her a more grounded and sturdy appearance.

She slowly turns her head toward you.

Her eyes look sharper now. More serious. More determined.

Yet despite the changes, you can still recognize the same girl you love.

"I should have healed you enough to get up and win this fight," she says.

Her voice is sharper than before, more confident and mature.

"You won't disappoint me, right?"

You slowly push yourself back onto your feet.

You tighten your grip around your weapon.

"...I sure can."

Midori gives you a determined smile.

The two of you turn toward the monstrous Beedrill.

This time, you're ready to fight together.
