A note

Upon sliding the lid of the box open, Lucy was surprised to find a notebook, heavily protected by dark grey padding, obviously the contents were worth protecting. She knew she shouldn't touch anything, she was probably in enough trouble just for witnessing the crash but something made her pick up the notepad. A quick flick through the pages revealed detailed drawings, diagrams, charts and all sorts of mathematical equations that made no sense to her.

Lucy looked at the box again only to find a small white object poking through the padding. Hearing sirens growing louder in the distance, she knew she had to leave. Lucy dropped the notepad and started to run toward the woods but something stopped her. She looked over her shoulder as a sudden urge to go back, to listen to a voice in her head that called her back. Her heart beating faster than she thought possible, Lucy turned back and grabbed the notebook and along with it, the strange white object.

This time Lucy didn't look back. Her lungs burned as she sprinted to the treeline, past the stream, over the bridge and she didn't stop until she got to her front doorstep. Fumbling for her keys, she hurriedly opened the door and sprinted upstairs before closing her bedroom door quickly behind her. She threw her bag under her bed and slumped face down on her bed before the emotions and exhaustion caught up with her and she fell asleep.
