A mother's day gift

You were staring at the rings in disbelief as they finally arrived. There was no way it was real right? The set came in a small, carved wooden box, and inside was a set of 5 rings and a medallion, all made out of gold. The medallion had a pendant on its end, a small round thing with what seemed like runes carved into it, and five gems: A white one on the top, and then continuing in a circle, a blue one to its bottom left, and green one bellow it, a yellow and finally a red. And of course, each of the 5 rings had a gem matching to those on the pendant.

Next to all of that, was a small note. It was a mess written in barely legible writing which you could barely understand, but you could gather it explained how the rings worked: "put a ring on a person you want to possess [...] Gems will light up [...] rub the gem to activate [...] turn it to switch back [...] you have been warned."

Reading the instructions, you were wondering if you just wasted last week's paycheck on some shiny junk. While you couldn't deny how real the rings and set gems looked, the instructions made you feel a bit skeptical. "Why even write instructions down?" You asked as he tried to decypher the chicken scratch writing. It seemed like it was written by a crazy person, but its instructions were quite descriptive, so you didn't know if to trust it or not. Surely this was nonsense. It seemed so. Magic rings of possession? It made absolutely no sense. And you didn't take it seriously for a moment.

...but, still. It intrigued you. This kind of stuff always kinda did. You were always a fan of cryptids and such, you never believed these kinds of stories but it was always nice to imagine.

Eh, whatever, what harm is there in trying right?

Giving up with a sigh, you simply picked up the medallion. Your slim fingers slowly twisted the dial from one color to the next, observing how beautiful it looked. "It can't hurt to try..." you muttered to yourself as you placed the medallion back down. Looking down at the five rings, you glanced at the instructions again. 'You have been warned.' The words filled you with worry. What kind of risks would magic like this entail? What if you got stuck in a different body? What if whoever you did this to remembered everything? Sighing in resignation, you pocketed all five rings and the instructions. Maybe he could get it looked at down at the library. The workers there were pretty smart.
