Chapter 3 by Altu5g Altu5g

Where to?

Hand your mother her gift

You reached down and took the white ring from the box, admiring it closely. It certainly looked like a real gem, and one that your Mother would love. Your mother

really was your rock. You didn't feel like you and your dad had .uch in common, but Mom was a different story.

You shared a few hobbies, most notably your love for cheesy soap operas, which you would often watch together.

Heading back downstairs with a rate smile and some pep in your step, you caught your mom on the phone with her work friend Clair. You waited for her to finish talking before presenting her with said ring. "Happy Mother's Day, Mom. I love you and all you do for me. Thank you."

Your mom was ecstatic. You could see on her face how much this touched her, and couldn't help but be happy with yourself. She looked at the ring, then back at you with a wide loving smile, before standing up and giving you a bear hug.

"Oh my gosh, Jean, it's perfect!" She beamed. Kim Aldeira was a very expressive person. When she was mad, she wasn't afraid to show it. But when she was happy, she seemed like the happiest person on earth. It was one of the many things you loved about your mom- she really was a great person. And you were more than happy to just gift her that ring, no matter if it would work or not.

"You're so thoughtful!" She pulled back from the hug and looked at you, clearly proud of you. She touched the edge of your nose, a gesture she did often with both you and your sister. But while your sister hated it, you actually kind of liked it. With that, she slid the ring on her middle finger, right next to her wedding ring. She examined the gem a little and smiled again. "It's beautiful Jean Where did you find it? I didn't realize you were so good with jewelry, maybe l'l have you pick me some more!" She teased you.

You let the hug linger for a moment longer, enjoying the bliss you felt in her arms. Once the hug was over, you just smiled fondly at her. She was far more talkative than I ever dreamed of being, but she was still a great conversation partner. She could just talk to anyone with the greatest of ease. It was why she made such a good therapist.

"Thank you, Mother. I'm glad you like it so much. I guess I got your taste for nice things somewhere inside me. Do you have any other big plans for today?" You knew Hailey, your sister, hadn't given her a gift yet as it was still early. You had no idea what Dad would be doing but it wasn't hard to imagine. In the back of your mind, you thought of the medallion still upstairs.

"Well, I'm mostly taking the day off for myself." She grins, continuing to examine the ring. "Your father has a date planned, he's keeping the details secret but don't tell him I already know he's taking me to the spa." She chuckles. "'After that he'd probably take me to dinner, so my entire afternoon and evening are lined up. But there's still a few hours before I have to get ready, and until then, I don't have much planned." She sat back down on the sofa, grabbing the remote. "Do you want to watch some Empire with me?" She asked cheerily.

Hang out with your mother?
