A Different Mansion

Chapter 3 by Grimm05

"Stupid Irons." Officer Jill Valentine muttered angrily to herself upon pulling her patrol vehicle onto the mansion driveway, the collar of her patrol uniform poking against the flesh of her police uniform as though she was wearing a literal noose around her neck.

It was a far cry from the pale blue top she would often wear with her S.T.A.R.S. Uniform as the specialized ensemble was built for flexibility during high speed raids and the various rescue missions the Unit was founded upon. Being forced to don the standard Raccoon City Police Uniform felt strange in the eyes of the Specialized Officer, a demotion really while her assignment on this particular night further compounded her belief that she had done something to anger the Chief of Police or at least someone high up in the city with enough pull to have the attractive Officer assigned to this rather menial task.

Simply drive up to the Spencer Mansion and ensure the property and land was secure in preparation for some VIP Party meant to occur within the mansion grounds in a week filled with Executives of the Umbrella Corporation, City Council, and various investors from around the world. In other words it was a party of the elite who are the backbone of the city's entire economy and more importantly the police force of which Jill was a part of. They needed the assurances of their safety by the best and in the eyes of Chief Irons that meant the Master of Lockpicking Officer Jill Valentine who made the hour long journey up the winding road for the sole purpose of infiltrating the mansion to ensure security was up to snuff, at least that was the story she was told.

In truth the Officer was summoned for far more dastardly reasons as one might expect from the brains behind Umbrella Corporation and their illegal activities revolving around bioweapons capable of wiping out the entire human race if needed.

Thus we find the Elite Patrol Officer emerging from her patrol car only to be greeted by a man in a sharp red suit flanked by two men Jill immediately pegged as ex-military simply by the way they held themselves and scanned the uniformed Officer. Their eyes masked by dark shades that reminded Jill of Albert Wesker's own spectacles, their hair slicked back in a similar fashion as well and their suits custom tailored in a darker shade of black that blended perfectly with the coming nightfall while Jill's sharp eyes noting the outline of shoulder holsters beneath their jackets but not the standard protective vests she had come to expect from those in their line of work. Their lack of body armor leaving Jill wonder if it was arrogance or complacency that caused a change in wardrobe while her tactical mind began to analyze all the various ways a thief or more importantly an assassin could get pass them given the lack of practicality that comes from wearing shades at night.

"Officer Valentine." The man spoke as though he was greeting an honored guest, extending his hand for a handshake while introducing himself "Charles Coleman, CEO of Umbrella Corporation. Thank you for making the journey out here to test our security arrangements I'm sure our guests will be put at ease once RPD's Finest confirms that they are safe."

Jill as naturally surprised to be greeted by someone so high up on Umbrella's Corporate Ladder much less the CEO himself and yet the Officer was naturally suspicious knowing there was little chance Umbrella would send their own leader to a meet and greet with a overqualified beat cop such as herself. Her eyes naturally narrowing upon noting that his guards looked at him as a predator would prey even beneath their tinted glasses while their shoulders tightened seemingly prepared for a threat that left Officer Valentine wondering what about her was threatening to these men. The lack of her standard S.T.A.R.S. Attire certainly left Jill indistinguishable when compared to her fellow Officers save for her choice of a blue blouse over the khaki colored patrol uniforms other officers traditionally wear if only because Chief Irons had given the Officer the latest variation of the RPD Uniform as a form of show and tell for RPD's latest updates. The blue top and black slacks were certainly nothing new for anyone in law enforcement save for the tightness of her blouse due to the new uniform not being tailored for the Officer's rather large bust while her duty belt held all of the standard equipment one carries while enforcing the law such as her service weapon, baton, and of course handcuffs should she be required to restrain a suspect.

None of which Jill intended to use during a glorified milk run as the Officer greeted the man in kind by shaking his hand and answering in kind "Pleasure to meet you Mister Coleman Chief Irons tells me that you wanted reassurances that security can not be penetrated from the outside or within correct?"

Nodding his head with a pleasant smile on his face the man was quick to respond as though he was in a board room by answering "Yes of course Officer Valentine our guests are very wealthy the last thing we want is to expose them to any harm.

'More like their check books.' Jill thought to herself knowing that the man before her cared little about his guests and more along the lines of what they could provide him and Umbrella should they sign on the dotted line although she would be the last to voice this belief in public.

"In that case I'll be required full access to the mansion's blueprints, layout, security and full staff background." Jill listed in a swift and professional manner before noting the setting sun and coming clouds that left Jill realizing a storm was coming and adapted her plans accordioning "I'll also require a room to work from and the ability to speak to every member of staff. I may be here all night and I would rather not leave unless I am certain the task is complete."

Clapping his hands together with the same smile plastered over his face the CEO looked absolutely giddy while giving the Officer a response to her request "Of course a room has already been arranged for your use just in case. If you would follow me."

Turning to leave Jill was prepared to follow when one of the security guards stood before them and raised their hand as a signal to stop before explaining the situation to the two "civilians" in a manner the Officer found rather alarming.

"I'm sorry sir but Officer Valentine's firearm will need to remain locked away at security per policy no exception." The man informed the two as though he was telling someone that their shoe was untied.

Surprised Jill was the first to respond "I'm a member of the Raccoon City Police Department my service weapon stays with me."

Shaking his head in disapproval Jill noted the other guard was moving to her left in a flanking maneuver that would easily allow him to get a shot at the Officer if needed without risk of crossfire while their boss turned to face Jill once again with a reassuring smile.

"Apologies Officer Valentine I believed that you would have been allowed to enter the premises with your weapon but I was mistaken." He explained, glaring at the security guard as though he was being insulted.

"Boss's orders Mister Campbell. Only members of Umbrella Security Group are allowed to carry a firearm within the mansion grounds. Ordinarily we would have requested Officer Valentine relinquish her firearm at the gate however we believed it would be easier to inform her face to face rather than via speaker." The man was sensible and kind in his words and yet Officer Valentine was far from relaxed concerning the order.

Continuing with his kind smile Campbell was the first to speak "I'm afraid I can not argue with their logic Officer Valentine. Please give them your weapon and we will proceed inside to continue this tour."

The request left Jill unnerved and wondering what else she would be required to do before the night is over while also realizing refusing to obey will cause the ire of Umbrella to be directed towards her and more importantly the RPD by extension. Leaving Jill with a decision of whether or not to surrender her weapon and the question of what awaits her behind the door.
