[Stepsister POV] Behind the Scenes

Chapter 65 by Levantin Levantin

The small café near the university campus sat nestled in the dappled shade of mature chestnut trees. Outside on the terrace, glasses clinked; inside, muted jazz played over the speakers. Tucked away in a secluded corner booth of deep crimson velvet sat Loona, her fingers curled around a white ceramic cup, while opposite her, Nadja rested her chin on folded hands.

"You look pleased with yourself," Nadja observed, her doe-brown eyes glittering with sharp interest. She wore a fine, beige knit sweater that accentuated her delicate collarbones, studying Loona with that familiar, dissecting smile. "More than pleased. That’s the exact look you get when a plan doesn't just work, but clicks into place without a hitch."

Loona took a sip of her cappuccino, set the cup down silently onto its saucer, and leaned back. "Our plan regarding Emma. It worked down to the letter. She's finished. Completely."

"Really?" A low, amused chuckle slipped from Nadja’s throat. She leaned in a little further across the table. "So your patience actually paid off. I knew lulling her into a false sense of security first was the right play."

"The best move on the board," Loona replied, a cruel smirk playing on her lips. "Exactly as we mapped it out: I spent months worming my way into her complete confidence, pretending to be her trusted ally, letting her exploit John without limits. She felt so untouchable that she welcomed me straight into her inner circle without a second thought. And your tip about the burner phone was pure gold—the crypto drug orders for the graduation gala, the affair with Leon's best friend… She knows full well that a single click from me is all it takes to turn her picturesque Grunewald life to ash."

"A masterpiece," Nadja murmured proudly, taking a sip of water. "And what’s the play with her now? Making her pay back every cent she extorted out of John?"

"No, I couldn't care less about the money," Loona dismissed with an offhand flick of her wrist, her green eyes flashing dark. "Total control over her is worth a thousand times more. I’ve never had a girl to play with—at least not one so thoroughly, unconditionally at my mercy. I’m going to break her in, Nadja. Step by step. As for schoolwork, John isn't writing another single line for her. Those days are done. Now she gets to learn what it truly means to sit at the absolute bottom of the food chain."

Nadja’s lips curved into a slow, hungry smile, a telltale gleam lighting her gaze. "A blonde notary’s daughter as a personal pet… sounds tempting. When you begin her training, make sure you save me a front-row seat. After all, I helped tie the noose, so I’d certainly enjoy teaching her a thing or two about manners myself."

"You'll get your turn, trust me," Loona promised softly, smoothing a stray lock of straight black hair behind her ear. "We'll share the little project. But one step at a time."

"And how are things progressing on the other front?" Nadja asked, shifting the subject, her tone dropping into a hushed, conspiratorial murmur. "How is our Harry Potter holding up?"

"He is thriving in his worthlessness," Loona answered with overt malice. "The conditioning regimen is doing wonders. He's putting on the exact muscle tone I want to see on him. Athletic, chiseled, broad through the shoulders. Even Vanessa noticed yesterday when he had to work the knots out of her calves after her studio session."

Nadja let out a low, melodic laugh. "The stepmother still hasn't caught on to a thing?"

"Of course not. To her, he’s simply the handy domestic pet who kneads away her muscle soreness for forty euros of allowance money. She pays him, and two minutes later he hands the cash straight over to me. He belongs to me, Nadja. Every breath, every cent, every strip of muscle."

"And… down there?" Nadja tilted her head, her brown eyes locking onto Loona with unabashed amusement. "Is the resin holding?"

"Rock solid," Loona said, her expression turning glacial. "He doesn't even beg anymore. He knows he only gets to breathe when I give him leave. Yesterday I let him off briefly. On his knees. Blindfolded."

Nadja arched an eyebrow, visibly impressed. "You really execute this with surgical precision. Zero mercy."

"Mercy only dilutes the outcome. When we make the next move, the foundation has to be unbreakable."

"The move into the new place?" Nadja pressed.

"Exactly. The school year is practically over. Final exams are a mere formality; John could ace them in his sleep. After that, we're done with the penthouse. Vanessa and his father are funding the new apartment—they genuinely believe they’re doing both of us a favor by letting us move in together for university."

A wide, telling smile spread across Nadja’s lips. Reaching across the table, she lightly tapped the rim of Loona’s cup with her index finger.

"A private little nest. No stepmother walking through the door unexpectedly. Total control around the clock."

"Precisely," Loona nodded. "And you’re going to help me with the move. I want you established as a permanent fixture in that apartment from day one. But completely innocuous. I want him convinced right up until the final second that you’re just the sweet, clever friend from uni. I want to watch him die a little inside every time you’re in the room—consumed with panic that you might notice his leash."

"Oh, this is going to be a treat," Nadja purred, raw anticipation for the twisted game flashing behind her eyes. "I play the clueless student to perfection. And when he breaks a sweat, when that cage strains against his trousers while I’m standing right beside him… I'll be sure to look very closely."

Loona raised her glass. "To the nest."

Nadja clinked her glass against it, the crystal ringing clear through the booth. "To the nest. And to your new pair of pets."
