Chapter 4
by Tosaphine
What you thinking about?
[David's mom]
Surely, you can't be saying you had been thinking about how teacher ass looks in a skirt...
Though, if you're being honest, the teachers are hotter than the girls you've seen around campus. They've got... flavor?... It's the buttoned-up look. The authority. The personality wrapped in professionalism... Compared to them, the students feel like cardboard cutouts with TikTok filters.
But you keep this to yourself... for now. No need to nuke the vibe. Gotta figure out their 'tastes' first.
For now...
Quickly, you sift through your brain for a decent conversation starter. Something other than weather. God, anything but that...
"Oh, just how nice the weather is," you'd say.
"Yeah..." they'd nod.
And then it'd be back to awkward silence.
...
"Oh... Just about what John promised me," you toss in a thoughtful voice. Fake, of course.
"Promise? I did?" John blinks like you dragged him back from a mental loading screen. Eyebrows raising, he asks, "What did I promise?"
"Come on! You forgot?" you say with mock betrayal, glancing toward David. "David was there too."
"I was?" David twists in the driver's seat, looking even more confused than John.
You drum your fingers on the snack pile by your side. Crinkle. Pause. Still nothing... The clue flies over their heads. "That thing about David's mom. You know..." You throw in another breadcrumb.
John catches it first and bursts into a wheezy laugh, knocking his head on the window. "Ohhh-hahaha!"
"Ha! Ha!" David follows with two deadpan chuckles, meeting your eyes in the rearview with a dry stare. "Fuck you, Tim. Kindly. But John can suck my whole dick for starting it."
"Thanks but I'll give half to Tim," John grins, generously sharing half the load with you as he elbows David.
"Hey, hey. Just fucking with you. Don't take it like that." You slap your palms down on their shoulders. "I just don't follow with that game. Not that it's not interesting,"
"Sure, let's talk moms then." David shoots back, the sharp look in his eyes turning playful. "Why don't you tell me about yours so it's fair play?"
You shrug, honest this time. Nothing to tell. No juicy drama. No tragic twist... Just plain old middle-class mom. Sweet but dull. There's nothing to use for a good dick-slapping, so their follow-up questions all bounce off.
Is she hot? Is she young? Does she wear yoga pants? Do you hear her rocking the bed at night, moaning, shaking the thin walls with her fucking? Anything?...
Ehm... No.
Nothing.
They end up with as much to grasp as with the greasy hamburgers from the gas station. It all slips through their fingers. She's just... mom.. Boring, vanilla mom. And that somehow kills the mood.
But then, something shifts in them. Once the laughs settle, their tones turn soft. The jokes trail off. Silence feels different. And then... they open up.
You find out both their moms are divorced. Neither of them knew each other long, but that shared history made things click faster. And while David is understanding, John resents his mom.
"So, what are they like?..." you ask, not even sure why. Just... curious.
"Like, what?" David's head tilts slightly, unsure what you mean. "You'll see mine in a few minutes... Hold up. Why the hell is that-... Eh... Whatever. About John's..." David cuts a look to John, silently asking for permission.
John lifts a brow and shrugs, but doesn't object.
"Honestly? She's nice," David says after a beat. "Sometimes I think nicer than my own. John always yells at her to get out of his room, but she only smiles back. Calls him "Sweetheart" and never raises her voice. Sorry, man. Just what I think."
"Dude..." You glance at John. "I know it ain't my place, and I'm not trying to be a condescending ass... but dude..."
John shrugs again, brushing off more than he lets in. "Whatever. We're going to my place next."
You've barely known each other for a few days so you don't press. He makes it clear enough. Not your weight to carry.
"When's that? Next week?" you ask, your arms wrapping around the front seats as you lean from the middle back.
"Yeah." John mutters, half there, half somewhere else.
"Okay. We're here," David cuts in, killing the engine with a flick of the wrist. He shifts in his seat, eyeing the lot like he's scanning for something invisible. "Forgot anything? I'm gonna park."
He glances at John, then checks the rearview, catching your gaze just long enough for the question to hang between the three of you...
So... what now?
Forgot anything?

Mother Fucker
Spoiler [You Fuck Mothers]
Relationships are fleeting. Everyone is emotionally disconnected and nothing feels personal. Conversations don't click like they used to. Until you met them. The mundane things they talk about are fun to listen to. Their wrinkled smiles flutter something inside of you. You've been looking in the wrong places.
