What's next?
you go to Dr Saunders for help
The times when parts of Diana suddenly manifest become more frequent. Sarah and you grow concerned and finally reach out to Dr Saunders. To your surprise you immediately makes time for you to come see him.
Sitting across from Dr. Saunders in his softly lit office, you and Sarah shared a quiet, tense glance. The weight of everything—Sarah’s shifting personality, the blurring lines between her identity and Diana’s—pressed heavily on your minds.
Dr. Saunders listened intently as Sarah described the moments when Diana’s mannerisms, memories, and emotions surfaced unexpectedly, sometimes overtaking her own sense of self. You added your observations—the subtle changes you’d noticed, the confusing mix of affection and distance.
He nodded thoughtfully. “What you’re experiencing is a complex integration process,” he explained gently. “Because the transplant involved merging Sarah’s upper brain with Diana’s lower brain, some of Diana’s deep-seated memories and emotional patterns remain accessible. This can manifest as involuntary shifts in personality traits, habits, even emotional responses.”
Sarah swallowed hard. “Is this permanent? Will I lose myself entirely to Diana?”
Dr. Saunders shook his head. “It’s difficult to predict exactly how this will evolve. The brain is incredibly adaptable, but also deeply influenced by past conditioning. Your sense of self—Sarah’s consciousness—is still very much present, but it’s navigating a body and subconscious shaped by decades of Diana’s experiences.”
He looked at both of you with empathy. “Therapeutic support, cognitive exercises, and ongoing monitoring can help manage these shifts. The goal is to maintain Sarah’s identity while integrating the new biological realities.”
You exhaled slowly, the medical explanation bringing some clarity but also underscoring the challenges ahead.
Sarah reached for your hand under the table, squeezing it.
You squeezed her hand in return. “We’ll face this together,” you said quietly.

The Ultimate Transplant
Someone you know is given a new body & life
PLEASE ADD CHAPTERS! A close friend or family member is horribly injured in an accident. As they lay dying in the emergency room, another patient dies of a brain aneurysm. Both of them are organ donors, so a surgeon decides it's the perfect opportunity for him to try an experimental surgery. He transplants the victim's higher brain (the cerebellum) to the donor's body in an attempt to 'save' a life. Amazingly it works. But the surgery was not approved so the hospital convinces the families to keep quiet, arguing that revealing this operation to the public would bring never-ending media attention to all involved. That means that the patient will have to publicly assume the identity of the donor. What will this mean to your friends and family? Who else will you tell? Although you will spend a lot of time and effort giving support, how will all this alter your relationship to the patient? And how will he or she adapt to a complete change of body and identity? Many transformation stories focus on the change or victim, so I thought it would be interesting to instead have the POV be someone who sees the change from the outside. Writers feel free to explore a change in age, gender, class or ethnicity - and the repercussions that change would have on the main character (and others).
