Chapter 11 by whiteballs whiteballs

Where do I decide to go next?

the stairs on my left

{if GM==1}Maybe the stairs on my left would be a good place to start. I carefully tread my way up and notice that the bits and pieces of torn newspaper and magazine pages appear to increase as I move upward.

As I round a corner, a thought comes to my mind. Maybe these newspapers and magazines are not recent. They may hold some information about how life was when this building burned down. But how could they survive a fire? And there doesn't appear to be any indication that the pages have been singed.

I pause and bend over to pick up a torn page from a magazine. The upper corner shows a date 13 years ago-- that is one year before Mom's ****.

Excitedly, I pick up another torn page. The date is recent, just one month ago-- from the psychology journal of the university I am attending.

I glance back at the old page and check for the magazine name-- and beside the date is the name 'Hooked'. It sounded like a magazine for fishing hobbyists. I read a few sentences on the page and it appears to be part of an interview-- and it looks like they are interviewing a porn star named Greta. Why would a fishing magazine be interviewing a porn star? Well, it is a men's magazine, you idiot!

I scan the steps for more pages from 'Hooked' and notice a pile of magazines haphazardly dumped at the base of the railing on my right. Throwing caution aside, I hurriedly move towards the pile.

Without any warning, I feel a sharp metallic pain on my left rib cage. I attempt to turn towards my left and examine the protruding object I had accidentally hit.

Before I could completely turn, I hear a commanding female voice say, "Don't move any further!"

I glance at the metal poking my ribs and realize too late that it is the barrel of shotgun.

"Don't look back! Move back down the stairs and leave the building. Now!"

I try to conjure in my mind what possible alternatives I had. I could try to wrest the gun from her, but I could not be sure whether I would succeed, given that my sister was stronger than me, this woman would most likely be stronger than my sister. Or she could just be bluffing. But how was I to know?

"I said move now!" The woman exclaims.

Do I try to resist?
