Chapter 4 by brawlers brawlers

What’s Sabrina’s first class?

swim class

As she walks towards the pool area, the smell of chlorine and the sound of splashing water greet her. She loves the feeling of being in the water, it's like a second home to her. She quickly changes into her swimsuit and grabs her goggles, ready to dive in. Her swim instructor, Coach Thompson, is already there, writing notes on the whiteboard. Sabrina takes a deep breath, feeling a mix of excitement and nervousness, wondering what today's practice will be like.

Just as she's about to jump into the pool, she notices a group of students from the rival school standing by the bleachers, watching them.

Among the group of students from the rival school, Sabrina notices Kassandra, the rival school's swim captain, standing with her arms crossed and a confident smirk on her face. Kassandra's piercing blue eyes seem to be fixed on Sabrina, and for a moment, they lock gazes. Sabrina feels a shiver run down her spine as she quickly looks away, trying to brush off the feeling of being intimidated.

Coach Thompson clears his throat, breaking the silence. "Alright, team! Let's get started. Today, we're going to work on our freestyle technique. I want you all to pair up and practice your strokes."

Sabrina's eyes scan the pool area, searching for a partner.

Sabrina's eyes land on Emily, her friend and teammate, who is already standing by the side of the pool, adjusting her goggles. Sabrina smiles and makes her way towards Emily, trying to shake off the feeling of being watched by Kassandra. As she approaches Emily, she can't help but sneak another glance at the rival school's team, and her eyes meet Kassandra's again. This time, Kassandra raises an eyebrow and smirks, making Sabrina feel a surge of competitiveness.

"Hey, Em," Sabrina says, trying to sound casual, "want to be my partner for today's practice?"

Emily looks up and smiles. "Yeah, sure thing!

I was just about to start warming up. Want to join me?"

Sabrina nods and begins to stretch her arms over her head, arching her back in a languid motion. As she does, she can't help but sneak another glance at Kassandra, who is still watching her with an intensity that makes Sabrina's skin prickle.

Kassandra's eyes seem to bore into Sabrina's very soul, and for a moment, Sabrina feels like she's drowning in their piercing blue depths. She quickly looks away, trying to shake off the feeling of unease that's settling in the pit of her stomach.

Coach Thompson blows his whistle, and the sound echoes through the pool area, making Sabrina jump.

As the whistle pierces the air, Sabrina's heart skips a beat, and she feels a sudden rush of adrenaline. She turns to Emily, who's already started to swim towards the other end of the pool. "Hey, wait up!" Sabrina calls out, laughing, and dives into the water after her friend.

The cool liquid envelops her, and she feels a sense of freedom as she strokes through the water. She catches up to Emily and they swim side by side, their movements synchronized as they warm up. Sabrina can't help but steal glances at the rival school's team, who are still watching them from the bleachers.

As Sabrina and Emily swim side by side, the sound of their strokes echoes through the pool area, creating a soothing melody that seems to calm Sabrina's nerves. She focuses on the sensation of the water rushing past her body, feeling the resistance as she moves her arms and legs in a synchronized motion. The cool liquid envelops her, providing a sense of weightlessness that she loves.

Coach Thompson's voice interrupts the tranquility, "Alright, team! Let's pick up the pace! I want to see some speed!" The whistle blows again, and Sabrina feels a surge of adrenaline as she increases her stroke rate.

As Sabrina increases her stroke rate, she feels her heart pounding in her chest, and her lungs burning from the exertion. She focuses on her technique, trying to maintain a smooth and efficient stroke, but she can't help sneaking glances at Kassandra, who's still watching her from the bleachers. Kassandra's expression is unreadable, but Sabrina can sense a hint of competitiveness emanating from her.

Coach Thompson walks along the side of the pool, observing his team's technique and offering words of encouragement. "Good job, Sabrina! Keep your arms relaxed and your kick strong!" he calls out, as Sabrina swims by.

The sound of Coach Thompson's whistle breaks the silence once again, and Sabrina and Emily come to a stop. "Alright, team! That's it for today! Great job!" Coach Thompson says, as he blows the whistle one last time.

As Coach Thompson walks into the school, the sound of his whistle still echoes in Sabrina's ears. She watches as he disappears into the locker room, his worn-out sneakers squeaking with each step. The rival school's team is still seated in the bleachers, their eyes fixed on Sabrina's team as they climb out of the pool. Kassandra's gaze lingers on Sabrina for a moment before she turns to her teammates, her expression unreadable.

Sabrina feels a shiver run down her spine as she pulls herself out of the pool, the cool air enveloping her like a blanket. She wraps her towel around her shoulders, feeling the soft terrycloth absorb the water droplets on her skin.
