Chapter 194 by zankoo zankoo

outside the country club

As they stepped outside, Abbie's eyes widened at the sight of the gleaming black stretch limousine parked in front of the country club. The afternoon sun glinted off its polished surface, and a smartly dressed chauffeur stood at attention by the rear door.

"Oh my god," Abbie whispered to Jake, gripping his arm in excitement. "It's huge!"

Jake chuckled, his eyes twinkling with amusement. "That's what she said."

Abbie playfully swatted his arm, but couldn't help giggling. The group of wedding party members was already clustering around the vehicle, their voices raised in animated chatter.

Staci waved them over. "Come on, you two! Let's get this party started!"

As they approached, Abbie felt a flutter of nervousness in her stomach. She recognized a few faces from the brunch, but some were strangers. Jake seemed to sense her hesitation and gave her hand a reassuring squeeze.

"Everyone, this is Abbie and Jake," Staci announced. "They're joining us for our little adventure."

Melanie and Emily, whom Abbie had met earlier in the day, waved and smiled before continuing their own conversation. Staci's twin sisters, whom Abbie recognized from the morning but had not met, walked over to her to introduce themselves.

The first twin, Ashley, flashed a warm smile as she extended her hand. Her long fingers were adorned with delicate silver rings that caught the sunlight. "Hi, I'm Ashley," she said. "And this is Alicia. We're Staci's sisters."

Abbie returned her smile and shook their hands. "Nice to meet you both," she replied. Pulling Jake closer to her, she added, "I'm Abbie. And this is Jake."

As the twins turned their attention to Jake, Abbie couldn't help but notice how they appraised him with admiring eyes. Alicia's voice was honeyed and smooth as she offered her hand to Jake. "Jake," she purred. "So glad you decided to join us."

Jake cleared his throat and took their hands in turn, feeling a slight blush creep up his neck at their obvious flirtation. "Yeah," he managed to say. "I'm looking forward to the boat trip."

Ashley leaned in closer, her voice dropping to a whisper. "Oh, it's going to be quite the adventure," she said conspiratorially. "Staci always knows how to throw a party." Her brown eyes sparkled mischievously as she straightened back up, leaving Jake feeling both intrigued and slightly intimidated by these confident and alluring women.

As the twins walked back toward the car, Jake and Abbie turned to each other in a quieter conversation. Abbie said, "I know there was a weird thing before with that one, Danny?" She pointed toward the group of men talking with Phil, one of whom was the man who had tried to flirt with her at the bar.

Jake chuckled. "Oh, him? Yeah. He seems like a bit of a tool." He looked at the rest of the group, recognizing them from their small talk earlier.

"Maybe," Abbie said hesitantly.

"What," Jake asked, "do we need to clear the air at all before going on a day trip with all these folks?"

Abbie squeezed his hand and nodded. "I think we probably do." She strode toward the car and the group of men, pulling Jake behind her.

"Wait, that's not what I meant!" he called to her, stopping short of saying anything else as they grew too close to the group.

As she neared the men, Abbie cleared her throat to get their attention. "Hi," she said sweetly. "I'm Abbie, it's nice to meet you all."

As the introductions went around, Abbie smiled politely at each man, her eyes finally landing on Danny. He shifted uncomfortably, clearly recognizing her from their earlier encounter at the bar.

"Danny, right?" Abbie said, her voice friendly but firm. "I don't want things to be weird with all of us. We can all have a good time together, can't we?"

Danny looked at Abbie, then at Jake, his eyes squinting. "I'm cool," he said, in the manner of someone who was definitely not entirely cool. "I think that maybe I misunderstood something, but it's probably best if I don't get in the middle of it."

"Suit yourself, Danny." Abbie's voice was sweet. "But anything that I ever do or say, I mean it. I don't think you misunderstood anything."

Danny looked at Jake, confused.

"Don't ask me, man," Jake said, shrugging. "This woman speaks for herself."

"But ..." Danny started. "You're with him, but you gave me your number."

Abbie smiled and nodded. "Yup, that's how I remember it too."

Just then the driver called out to the group, "Okay, the bride says everyone's here -- so that means everyone's here. Let's pile in and hit the road!"

Staci led the way, followed by Phil, and one by one, everyone crawled into the limo. Abbie and Jake were the last two, and just before Jake ushered Abbie into the car, she turned back to Jake.

"Thank you," she said, giving him a quick peck on the cheek.

Jake raised an eyebrow. "For what?"

Abbie shrugged. "For everything."
