just get home

Jessica stood up on shaky legs. The night oppressively warm around her.
The night should have been quiet, but instead she heard the barking of dogs, the cry of a child, and the dull roar of a beast distantly. Jessica winced, bending over to collect her clothes. It seemed so minor a detail now, but she still cared that her aunt did not worry about her, rightly so apparently.
Taking a moment, before resolving herself, Jessica limped the last few steps home, shaking her head to prepare herself for some long, uncomfortable conversations.
She turned the knob. The door was open. Pushing the door open and locking it behind her, Jessica was home.
