continue on alone (zombie apocalypse)

In the end you decide to continue on alone, seeing off the turtle as it swims back to the sanctuary.

The water's become ever more unpleasant and you see more strange detritus floating by you. Finally the incline is close enough to the surface that you decide to breach it to take your first breath of fresh air.

You see a black beach ahead of you. The weather has become dark and the sea choppy. Large waves ripple towards the shore and you sway your tail and flap your pectoral fins to stay upright and get a good view of the sandy beach.

It too seems littered with the stuff you'd found in the sea collecting in long lines along the shore, glistening in the twilight of the overcast day. and around the occasional large rock jutting out from the sand.
