Catch up with Emma later

You have to go to lessons before you can explain yourself to Emma. You catch her at the end of school.

"Emma, I want to explain." You cry after her.

"What is there to explain. Abby is an apex, much cooler than me." Emma retorts, on the brink of tears.

"Exactly, she is an Apex predator and a powerful ally for apex omnivores like us. I am a human; my standing in this school and this world is shaky at best, built on reputation. I have the squishy, weak body of a prey and no natural defences except good stamina and high IQ. Being seen with Abby and the rest of the Apexes by the school means fewer people will question me. I will be free to make the decisions I want. Including going on a date with a big, strong, powerful grizzly bear." You explained as you watched Emma's expression relax.

"So you did this so no one would doubt our relationship." She asked.

"I am a nerd, you're a nerd. However, in the week I have been here, I have taken the popular girls (referring to Julie and her friends) down a peg. I have several teachers impressed with my knowledge. Mrs Hedley is enamored with me simply for being human. I have proven myself physically at swimming. I have shared a table with the Apex Predators and not as their meal. And I have scored a date with the hottest girl in the school." You flattered her at the end.

"Oh, you must be kidding." She replied before she pulled you into a big bear hug. "See you for the date tomorrow."
