PCI: Pet Center Incorporated

PCI is laid out like a department store with sections for adopting a pet, pet store, seamstresses, and health. What each section contains depends on the size of the PCI. The PCI pet shop carries a basic assortment of pet accessories and clothing including mid-range clothing. The seamstress creates custom clothing and accessories, more expensive than the warehouse but still more affordable than the boutiques. Boutiques are where the more discerning pet can find clothing and accessories. Such a prize comes at a price.

A larger PCI will have a seamstress department and a doctor's office (GP for pets). A smaller PCI will have consulting hours when the seamstress or GP will be present. The seamstress might be a resident seamstress, a contracted seamstress, or a freelance seamstress. The PCI GP will work at cost-covering rates. Depending on the size of the PCI there may also be a pharmacy.

The PCI Pet Adopting department has private quarters for pets, a pet cafe-like meeting area, and a counter to complete the adoption process. The cafe meeting area is where potential Pet Owners can interact with potential pets. Monitored conversation alcoves are available for more private conversations with pets. For a PH-1 phenotype pet, a simple SPCP notification will suffice. For a PH-2 phenotype pet, an SPCP registration followed by an SPCP representative house call is required to ensure that, depending on the donor-animal, any special requirements for the pet are met.

Depending on the size of the PCI, Pet@Work can have its own department in the PCI or its own office space.
Similar to Pet@Work, Rent-a-Pet has its own department in the PCI or its own office space depending on the size of the PCI.
Pet@Work (or PAW) has a whole range of jobs available from full employment to temping. Obviously a larger branch will have more choices of job openings than a smaller branch. Pet@Work strives for long-term business relations while the Rent-A-Pet business model is more geared to short-term companionship.

Rent-A-Pet

Rent-A-Pet has two departments: Rent-A-Pet and Plus-One-Pet. Plus-One-Pet is as the name implies is geared to social events where you need a plus-one. All other cases are covered by Rent-A-Pet. Let me get one thing straight Rent-A-Pet is not an escort service. Due to the good cooperation with PCI, Rent-A-Pet has at least a terminal at each PCI where the available pets are listed. In fact many a petgirl from a PCI earned their first money working for Rent-a-Pet. Some even go pro although they mostly also do Plus-One-Pet commissions.
But in principle any pet can start a Rent-a-Pet. Some take it as a kind of hobby others do to get some extra cash. Some even continue with it after they found an owner.
The layout of a Rent-a-Pet branch is much like that of a PCI branch with private quarters for the Rent-a-Pet Pro and a public area where clients and pets can meet and a desk for the necessary administration. For the safety of the pets all pick-up must take place at Rent-a-Pet.

Pet@Work (or PAW)

Pet@Work looks like any other employment agency. An office with a desk where a PAW employee tries to match a pet with a fitting employer. If it's a really big branch you have separate desks for temp and long-term jobs.
Because a PCI acts as a hub for all things pet you usually find a screen there displaying the jobs available at PAW.

Pets-4-Pets

Pets-4-Pets actually caters to both PO and PH phenotype.
Originally Pets-4-Pets started as a niche store for pets (PH phenotype) with too much time on their hands. But soon it became a nationwide chain of stores. It became so successful that if you see someone with an animal pet on the street nowadays it likely came from a Pets-4-Pets store.
Some stores even sell matching pet (PH) pet (animal) accessory sets.

SPCP (Society for Prevention of Cruelty against Pets)

Mission Statement:
To advance the safety and well-being of pets (PH phenotypes).

The SPCP has a nationwide network of offices. Everywhere you find a PCI you usually also find a local SPCP branch. A local SPCP official usually cooperates with the PCI, Rent-A-Pet, Pet@Work, Docs-4-Pets of its region. And if necessary coordinate with the local law enforcement. The number of SPCP officials depends on the size and population of a given region.
To support and train the SPCP officials there is also a central training center.
The SPCP also holds at regular intervals info-session at the local PCI for new pets (those who are tested to be PH phenotype).

FCRP (Federal Council for Responsible Pethood)

The FRCP was among the first Federal organizations the be established by the Lupus Federation.
They're the highest level of organizations, involved in everything to do with pets (PH phenotype). It formulates rules and regulations about all things pet (PH phenotype).

Docs-4-Pets

What started out as local outreach programs by local GP volunteers has nowadays grown to a nationwide outreach program. Sanctioned by the FCRP (Federal Council for Responsible Pethood) and supported by the SPCP.

Pet Cafes

Pet cafes might fall into two categories: pet-friendly cafes and petting cafes. Since there is a significant segment of the population that are pets, even ordinary coffee shops tend to have some items to appeal to pets. However, some really focus on that target market. This chapter will then describe mostly petting cafes where the idea is to be able to pet/cuddle a pet employee while you enjoy your coffee (or other hot beverage).

Some of the businesses are:

  • YNPC ... Your Neighbourhood Pet Cafe. Have a drink and a cuddle.
  • Cups & Cuddles. Tea Room by day, Lounge by night.
  • Pet Rock Cafe. An upbeat place with regular performances by pet-bands. Come and play at the Pet Rock Café.
