a small car breakdown... and moans?

(40 minutes later)

It was already dark outside, only a small strip of sun was behind the horizon, the sky was covered in dark blue colors. Suddenly the car jerked and sputtered. The engine had died and headlights fading into the enveloping fog. "What the hell?" he murmured, turning the key in the ignition. The car didn't respond.

Climbing out, Tom felt the soft dampness of the fog on his skin. It smelled faintly of vanilla, and he heard the distant sound of some women's moans, faint and muffled. He tried to dismiss it as the echoes of a wild party somewhere in the woods, but the sound was too persistent, too strange. He popped the hood and peered into the engine, but everything looked fine. The battery was charged, the wires connected. He slammed the hood shut, his frustration mounting. The last thing he needed was to break the car.

As he stood there, his eyes adjusting to the dim light, he noticed something peculiar. The fog around the car seemed to be... moving. It swirled and eddied in patterns that seemed almost alive, almost like... curvy female forms?

Tom rubbed his eyes, he didn't sleep enough at night, so maybe it's the reason why he see strange figures in the fog. The women's moans continued all this time, and Tom decided to quickly figure out what had happened to the car. Suddenly he noticed that somehow a pine stick had ended up in the engine, a trifle, Tom thought to himself and went back into the car, calmly starting it.

The sudden moan, a siren's call appeared if it was everywhere, sent a shiver down Tom's spine. The radio's brief intermission of static was eerie, but the music quickly resumed, the melody a stark contrast to the unsettling noise that had pierced the serenity. Laura remained oblivious, nestled in the embrace of sleep. Shaking his head, Tom dismissed the sound as a figment of his overactive imagination and turned his attention back to the road ahead. The sedan's engine roared to life as he stepped on the gas, eager to leave the peculiar scene behind them.
