'God, these kids are so sweet it hurts.' Zatanna thinks to herself as she leaves another room from personally performing more magic for the more terminally ill kids. There was already a larger, general show that she did earlier in the day. But the problem was not all the kids could be moved easily to a large enough area for it. So, Zatanna has been making rounds to the rooms of those kids who couldn't make it to the show and doing little performances for them.

And they always looked so happy, despite their horrible circumstances. Their faces light up at every trick she does. Sadly, doing magic also brings forth the hard question.

'Can you heal me?'

It is so heartbreaking to see their faces drop or they ask why she can't. There is no real easy answer to that question. She wishes she could heal every single one of them right this instant, but magic just isn't that simple. To even think about healing someone so terminally ill, it would take specific magic and incredible power. Magic isn't an all-encompassing cure as some might think.

Shaking my head to get rid of the negative thoughts, I put a smile back on my face as I walk back over to the nurse station. The older woman that sits there has a weathered and knowing smile on her face as she gazes at me. All the time she must have worked here, she must be well acquainted with how bittersweet this place can be.

"Another child, another satisfying show. Who is next on the list Delores?" I ask her, uncertain if I can handle getting asked the same question one more time.

She just gives me another smile before looking down at her list. "Well baby, it looks like we've reached the last name on the list. After this next one, you'll be done for the day."

I internally sigh in relief, partially thankful the day is almost over. After this emotionally exhausting day, I could use some comfort foods and my super soft bed. Or some villains to beat up, either will work.

"Ok, could you tell me a bit about my last audience member for the day Delores?"

"Well, he is actually a recent resident here and only just makes the cutoff for the children's section of the hospital. He was brought in by his mother and sister yesterday for chronic pain in the lower half of his body. The poor boy couldn't even act tough like most do when they get his age, kept holding onto his mother or sister and barely able to walk. He looked so relieved to get off his feet, I can't imagine how much he was hurting." Delores comments with her tone colored with sympathy, and I feel the same. All the fights I've been in, I don't think I have ever hurt that badly outside of a curse of some sort.

"When he was finally put in a room and hooked up to an IV of painkillers, he was able to relax some but not completely. He still has yet to be diagnosed as to what is wrong with him, so until then he is staying here. But the female doctors and nurses certainly don't mind. Those young girls keep going on about the 'handsome guy' and how sweet he is when he isn't in pain. I swear, those girls didn't waste time in arguing for shifts to take care of him." The elder woman says exasperated, making me giggle in amusement.

"But he is a sweet boy, I will admit. Went to check on him on my rounds and he just asked me how my day was, what I liked about my job, and so on. Soon I'd lost track of time just talking to him and when my replacement came to get me, he apologized for taking up so much of my time. Honestly, I'm thinking about calling my grand-daughter here to introduce to him. Better than all those other boys joining gangs and getting into trouble." She finishes with a nod.

I smile at her description. 'Sounds like a sweet kid. Maybe if he's that good, I'll give him MY number.' I think with a laugh. "Well what's the name of our Casanova and where can I find him?"

Delores smiles back once more. "Oh, he is that room down there on the right- fair warning, he is probably not even expecting you -and his name is Sam Dean."

How does the visit go?
