Your watch continues to beep.

You hold your wrist up in front of your chest, and a holographic display lights up in front of you. You’re looking at some kind of HUD, virtually tagging and cataloguing everything in front of you. It lights up with thousands of red markers as individual pieces of wreckage are detected. It’s worse than you feared. Your ship didn’t just get torn up on re-entry, something had happened. Wreckage from your colony ship littered the entire visible sky, streaking down and burning in the atmosphere, with only the densest or largest chunks of wreckage making it down to the surface.

You’re amazed that you survived, but there’s no way you’re the only one, right?

Suddenly, a gold diamond lights up on your display, and text forms around it.

“//EMERGENCY SIGNAL DETECTED. LIFE CRITICAL ONE. EMERGENCY SIGNAL DETECTED. LIFE CRITICAL ONE.//“

On your display, a path is highlighted leading into the jungle, saying the beacon is 452 meters away. You decide to follow it, there’s a way better chance of survival in a group than all alone.

Working through the jungle towards the beacon, you begin to notice how strikingly similar the foliage is here to earth. In the jungle, there’s palms and vines everywhere, with large hardwood trees streaking high up towards the canopy above.

As you get close to the beacon, you smell smoke. You pick up the pace, rushing forward into a clearing. Well, it would have been normal jungle here, if a huge piece of space ship hadn’t crashed into this spot. Your watch is showing the beacon near the opposite side of the wreckage. It’s a piece of the internal hull, you’d wager. Looks to be about two or three floor’s worth, and maybe the size of a few rooms. You make haste around the left side of the crash site, and you spot it. There’s a cryo-pod pinned underneath a large steel girder, you run up and push with all your might, barely lifting the steel, but enough to shove it off the cryo-pod. On the outside of the door, you pull the emergency release. The door blasts off, and you lean in to take a look at the inhabitant.
