Who ends up winning?

Your side, obviously.

Chapter 6 by Krakatowa

After half an hour of non-stop dribbling, shooting, and colliding into each other, Will blew the whistle to signal the end of the game.

"So... which of us won again?"

You asked Zoë, who had been frantically trying to block you from scoring another dunk.

Zoë snarled like an angry animal...then looked away.

"...You did."

You nodded.

You already knew that, but it was good to know that she wasn't dishonest, at the very least.

"It was a good game. I had fun."

You offered your hand to her.

Zoë looked down at your hand with a mixture of surprise and disgust, before ignoring your hand and turning away.

"Whatever."

She went to check on the other Hunters, most of whom had sprawled on the court floor as soon as the whistle blew.

The campers weren't in any better shape, though.

Out of five other campers, Lee was the only one who could manage to stand upright. Everyone else was either sitting or lying on their backs, all of them out of breath as if they had just run a marathon.

"Apollo almighty, I must admit that was an intense game."

"It was a pretty close one, too. 62:60."

Will added while handing a water bottle to both you and his half-brother.

"Now, don't drink too much at once, or—"

Lee ignored Will's advice and chugged down half of the bottle in one go.

You simply splashed the entire bottle over your head. Neither your clothes nor you could get wet by it anyway.

Will was about to scold you about proper hydration when a conch shell blew from afar, signaling that it was time for a meal.

"Is it lunch time already?"

You asked out loud.

Will shook his head.

"It's breakfast, actually. You came here at the brink of dawn—literally."

"Ha, ha."

You glanced at the lakeside, where there was still a huge patch of grass missing from the Sun Bus crashing into it.

As the rest of the campers and Hunters headed to the dining pavilion, you were about to head back to Cabin Three to take some rest when someone tapped on your shoulder.

It was Zoë Nightshade, looking more irritated than ever.

"What?"

You asked.

Zoë, instead of answering, held out her bare arm in front of you.

"Write it."

She said.

You blinked.

Now that the adrenaline was slowly diminishing in your system, a huge wave of exhaustion was washing over you.

And you weren't considered to be the sharpest tool in the toolshed at the best of your condition.

When you did nothing and stared into the void, Zoë grimaced and cursed in ancient Greek.

"Write your name here, you dolt!"

"What?"

Now, you were really confused.

"Why would I..."

"Because, as the lieutenant of the Hunters, I do not take my words lightly."

"Take your words lightly...?"

You were sure that Zoë was getting dangerously close to slapping you from irritation alone.

Thankfully, you remembered what she had said before that happened.

But if we win, we'll have our names written over your foreheads.

"Oh, I get it now."

"Thank Lady Artemis. Now hurry up, boy."

Zoë said the word 'boy' as if it were one of the most disgusting things she could ever imagine.

However, you were too tired to get into another scuffle with a Hunter, so you uncapped Riptide to turn it back into a pen.

"...!"

Zoë's eyes widened, but you didn't notice it as you scribbled your name on her forearm and put the pen back in your pocket.

"There. Done. Can I go now?"

"..."

This time, Zoë was the one who stared into the cosmos.

"Zoë?"

You waved your hand in front of her face.

Zoë flinched and looked up.

"What?"

"I'm gonna go now, ok?"

"Yes, do as you please."

Zoë looked down at her arm with a complex set of emotions, rubbing your name written on it.

You didn't care. You were too tired to think straight.

You dragged your feet to Cabin 3 and crashed onto the bed without even bothering to change clothes, and instantly fell into a deep sleep.
