Chapter 2
by Skancke
What's next?
Your life
You lived with your mother Mary, your older sister Malin and your younger sister Kim. Many would question why someone still 24 years old was still living with his family, but in reality they were living with you. You were the owner of the house (and indeed two others). Your father had had inherited land with three beautiful houses, all overlooking the big lake. He inherited it with his brother, your uncle, but had bought out your uncle as your uncle did not want to love there. Before the **** of your father, he had made it so the entire property went to you. Your parents were never married, so your mother didnt have any claim to the land but you still wondered at how he managed to handle the legal side of things and completely bypassed Malin and Kim. Your mother still sometimes mentioned that if it had happened today and not almost 20 years ago, it would never have been legal. Although it seemed very unfair, you couldn't help but feel very lucky and priviliged to own all of this. The thought had struck you if you should just give you sister equal shares in the property, but they had never asked. Why, you couldn't tell, but to be quite honest, you didn't really want to share as your life was very comfortable as it was.
The house you lived in was the largest and situated higher than the other two.
In the house nearest to yours, lived your aunt Celine, and your cousins Maria and Cornelia. Before living here, they had lived in the nearby city as your uncle preferred city life. After being caught cheating, your uncle emptied their bank account and ran off. They never heard from him again. Broke, pregnant and ****, your aunt had come to your family and asked for help. Despite having plans to tear down the three houses and make a great single house, he allowed them to move into one of them. They lived there for free to begin with, but were charged rent after a short amont of time. Despite the rent being far below market price, it was still an economic burden for your aunt Celine. But it was all worth it for her. On your 18th birthday you had gone over to your aunt that you would lower her rent by half. She had cried for five minutes straight while holding you close. Despite already being close, it definitely strengthened her love for you.
In the house farthest away from you, lived Maryam and her daughter Mina. Maryam was an old childhood friend of your mother and she had convinced your father to let her live in the third house after she broke off from her husband. You didn't know the details of how the marrige broke down, but you never enquired and your mother would not tell as it was not her story to tell. Maryam had also gotten the same deal from your father as Celine did in terms of rent. You never lowered her rent as you did with Celine, which you did feel a bit guilty about, but you weren't as close to Maryam as you were to Celine. Additionaly, you were aware of that Maryam's financial situation was a bit better. Not to mention that were exclusively living on the rent provided by Maryam and Celine. You spent most of your time by being on your computer, enjoying the nature around you, and helping around the three houses.
You walked out of your room and into the hallway. Kim was coming from from the livingroom, wearing baggy sweatpants and hoodie, and was walking towards her room. You were trying to quickly think of a way to touch her, almost blushing at the thought of how wrong that sounded in your head.
"Hey, Kim. How are you?" you blurted out awkwardly.
She barely met you eyes before looking at a point behind you. It was a bit sad really. Once you had been really close, but she started becoming very shy and more reclusive after coming out as trans several years ago. You gave her space figuring she needed it, but she never seemed to come out of her shell again. She didn't even look you in your eyes.
"Hi... Ehhm. Not much really. Why?"
"Nothing special, just seeing if you're OK." You gave her a small smile.
She fiddled with her hair, still not really meeting your eyes.
She returned the smile, but only responded with: "Yea, I'm doing fine," in a low voice before starting to walk again.
"Wait a bit," you said, reaching out and touching her arm to stop her - Skin contact - "I was wondering if you wanted to hang out this evening? Maybe play some video games or something. It's been... a long time since we last did something like that."
You felt really awkward, and feared it would just make things between you even more awkward. But having to try out the app, it was a nice excuse as you missed hanging out with Kim.
"Ohh really?" she exclaimed, finally making eye contact. She had really pretty green-blue eyes, which you've never really thought of before. Kim broke the eye contact, blushing slightly at how aggressive she felt her response was.
"Yea, I'd love that," she continued a bit calmer.
"Great, we can play on your switch then! I'll join you a bit later then."
You parted, both of you having big smiles on your faces. After Kim went into her room and closed her door, your hand went straight to your pocket to pick up your phone. You quickly opened the app to see if it worked.
When opening the app you got several notifications on the home page.
