Chapter 4
by DreamingSpace
Does anything happen?
You awaken as a Level 1 Warlock
The first thing you notice when you open your eyes is the array of colors. They're like nothing you've ever seen before, and you stare for long minutes trying to process them. They are all the colors of the dark, a rich black rainbow, inversions of everything you've ever seen before. Further, they're sourceless. There's no place the light is coming from, and no shadows. You look to the blackout curtains that cover up the little window in your cheap apartment. They're closed, but the tiny amount of light escaping through the lower edge washes out this new spectrum and illuminates the floor in the familiar colors of day. Already it seems somehow washed-out and colorless, nothing compared to the richly-hued tapestry of the night.
Are you thinking those words? Did the Queen of Ravens change your vocabulary?
Have you, then, accepted her existence as real rather than some bizarre hallucination? You guess you have. She feels real, and you can still feel the cool energy flowing within you. You think about what she said as you climb out of bed, stretch, and wonder what else you can do.
She said she gave you an armament. Instinctively, you hold out your hand as though gripping a weapon. A vividly black rapier springs into being in your hand. You twitch your wrist and will it to change shapes, and it turns into a 1911 pistol, matte black with silver scrollwork. You've never held a weapon before, but they feel comfortable and you instinctively know how to use them. You try to turn it into other things, but it doesn't work. It's a shadowy extension of your will, but limited in form for some reason. You have a thin, razor-sharp blade with a basket hilt, and a brutal and noisy handgun. No middle ground.
She said something about magic, too...you shake your hand and the gun disappears into a sprinkle of snow and shadow. Inhabiting in your mind are now two spells. There's another thing, you have a charge of magical energy you can use to activate either one spell, or the other. But you can't use it a little bit at a time, only all at once, and you think you need to rest to get it back...so what do you call a unit of magic that you can't divide and have to either use up or not? You decide to call it a Magic Bean.
So you have one Magic Bean per day that you can use to cast a pretty powerful spell, if you get in trouble. You think that you could...have more? Gain more? Your Mistress could grant you more.
That's a comforting thought, but somewhat uncomfortable that you already had it. You seem to have accepted this new relationship instinctively, as though pulling a cool blanket around your shoulders when you were exhausted from the heat. You know you want her favor.
In any event, you know a spell to put up to a few normal living beings asleep, and another to **** a single person to adore you and be open to suggestion. Neither one lasts forever. Also you're armed with spectral weapons you can call or dismiss, and you can see perfectly in pitch blackness. This seems like a start. But what do you do with powers that no one else in the world could expect you to have?
What do you do next?

The Magic Returns
A sort of litRPG
You are minding your own business in the modern world, when you are imbued with supernatural powers. Use them for whatever purpose your imagination can devise. Probably trying to accumulate money and have sex, you filthy animals. I intend to see how far I can push conditional variables.
