You try and give them some space, but end up in something else

"How about this...?" You ask after a while, as you realize the conversation has died out entirely, and you know it's not because eating your breakfast is enough to keep you all quiet for long. "I could go for a walk downtown, and leave you alone for a while?"

"Hmm...?" Rachel looks up to your face, and you notice how a slight frown forms on her brow as she seems to try and read your intentions. Then the frown deepens even more while she turns from you to Katie and back again, and for the first time in weeks you find that you really don't know what she's thinking at all.

"Is that really how you treat your guests?" She asks eventually, feinting you to believe that's the only reason to why she's taking so long to decide, only to be able and put you against the wall before you have time to think of a good reply. "And would you do it all the same, if you knew that you were leaving me all on my own with my ex...?"

"Well..." You start to say, as you're a bit surprised about this turn of events, but quickly come to realize your own mistake and immediately regret that you thought it would be that simple. Of course you'd been thinking down the exact same lines which Rachel insinuates about, but didn't think it through before letting it slip of your tongue.

"Yeah, I guess I would." You finally finish what you were about to say, as you decide it's not really worth avoiding the subject for too much longer. The one getting caught in the middle is Katie though, and you feel a bit bad for her as you see her looking from one of you to the other with mild surprise and a hint of worry in her big blue eyes.

"Is that so?" Your housemate locks your eyes with her own, while the tone to her voice becomes a little more frosty by the moment, and it's all too easy to tell that she's not entirely pleased with the direction this conversation is going in. Even so there's a slight, albeit cruel little smile appearing at the corner of her lips, which makes you think that she's at least a little curious as to where it will lead you. "And what if I told you that we'd be fucking like minks while you were gone then?"

"Rachel?!" Katie finally jumps in, but can't do more than stare at her old friend in breathless silence for a couple of moments, which after a while makes you realize that you've been holding your breath as well.

"I'm sorry." Rachel eventually breaks the silence, and again there's that weird smile and frown on her face as she glances sideways back at you. "I guess that I've just had enough of those blunt males for a while."

"It's not like you're any better yourself!" Katie surprises you by laughing in the face of this odd situation, and slowly makes you realize that she's actually known your lover by far much longer than you've done yourself. "You know it's not why I came here to see you anyways!"

"Yes, I know that already." The brunette's voice eventually returns to normal again, and you can even see the cute dimples returning to her lovely cheeks again, which only makes you feel even more stupid for instigating her sudden outburst in the first place. It seems like she's not done quite yet however, and this time it's Katie who receives a bit of her wicked humor. "But as I recall, it's not me who's been drooling over someone's something since the moment they arrived here..."

This comment would probably have passed as crude banter and empty accusations, if it wasn't for the quick and guilty glance you receive from Katie, which immediately tells you that your interest in her body hasn't been completely without a certain reciprocity. That's when you realize that she wasn't actually being all that shy when you first met her, but simply taking notice of your clothes - or at least the lack there off -, which in turn gives another meaning to what she and Rachel were discussing when you first overheard them talking inside the kitchen...

That she was talking about you being much more manly than expected didn't merely stretch your face, length, or shape of your body, but also to the size of the bulge inside your shorts. And then she wasn't just staring at the cup while you were pouring up too much water, or else she would have said something about it herself. Instead she'd once again been distracted by your hard on, which must have been all too obvious while you were checking her out in return, and right after eavesdropping on their previous, heated conversation.

"Well, yeah..." The blonde girl manages a timid little smile as she makes her confession, although there's nothing that shy at all about the way she laughs when she sees the confounded look on your face. Still it's Rachel she turns to the most, even as she tries to include you as well. "You know I've got a thing for excess..."

"So you keep saying!" Rachel grins at her, while leaning in over the table to brush one short blonde strand of hair away from her forehead, and ends up lingering with her fingers touching the girl's soft cheek. "And still you're telling me that you didn't come here to try and make up...?"

"Well, a girl could dream, right?" Katie smiles right back at her, and then up at you as well, before returning the gesture of stroking her old friend's face. There's a hint of sadness to her husky voice then, even if it's way outweighed by something else. "I'd never dream of stealing someone from another's arms though..."
