You sit at the library
We found a table toward the back of the library and spread our stuff out like we actually intended to get some work done.
For the first ten minutes, we did.
After that, the studying gradually turned into talking.
I asked Riley about her classes, what she was majoring in, where she grew up, and what she planned to do after graduation. She asked me about senior year, my major, and what I was doing after college. Every time one of us tried to steer the conversation back toward schoolwork, we’d somehow end up talking about something else.
She was easy to talk to. A little nerdy, a little sarcastic, and she laughed at a lot of my dumb comments.
At one point, she pushed her glasses farther up her nose while she was telling me about one of her professors. I caught myself looking at her for a second longer than I probably should have.
She looks pretty cute in those glasses.
I looked back down at my notebook before she noticed.
“So,” she said, smiling, “are you actually going to do any work today?”
I glanced at the mostly untouched page in front of me.
“Eventually.”
She laughed. “That’s what I thought.”
