Chapter 9

What precautions do you take before Jenna wakes up?
You order your skeletal allies to tie up Jenna.
You take time to consider your options and decide to try lay a trap, you figure you have some time before the next adventurer party of tomb raiders come through and hope that they are low level enough for you to exploit by harvesting their EXP as they themselves have done with so many of your kind. In your experience as a skeleton it's usually levels 1-5 heroes in this area. The earlier cleric and barbarian were the exception, not the rule.
You summon more skeletons and leave them with appropriate commands to attack when live people other than Jenna are detected. The room is 10x10 (which means with your extendo powers you could wedge yourself between the walls) with two open doors at opposite ends, your skeleton allies extinguish most of the torches leaving the room mainly in shadows. You leave Jenna the mage alive but order a skeleton to empty her backpack onto the floor, you notice some rope which you order a skeleton use it to tie her up. At your command it then tears a strip from the bottom of the robe she is still wearing and uses it to gag her mouth.
You wait, which isn't hard for you or your brethren to do. You pass the time by experimenting changing your length as well as considering how you can change your predicament. Could you stop heroes entering these crypts? Could there be a dream of creating a world of undeath where the undead are eternally at peace? The frustrations of your lack of self determination weighs heavily on your non-existent shoulders. Maybe the best thing to do is hitch a ride with Jenna exploring the world and grow in power until you are (hopefully) in a position to influence it.
You notice that while you had been thinking Jenna has awoken, she's clearly terrified and trying to scream through her gag. In her panic she didn't realise that if the skeletons wanted to kill her then they had had plenty of time to do it. You soon hear footsteps approaching.
The first figure, a heavily armoured Paladin carrying a two-handed sword makes it through the door with a battle cry. Your skeletons wait until the second figure, a lightly armed fighter with a sword and shield, is just about to go through the door when as per your instructions a rope is pulled taunt across the entryway causing a tripwire. The fighter careens into the back of the Paladin and they both land in a heap on the floor before the tied up Jenna. The skeletons advance and start beating at the warriors to cause temporary intelligence damage and knock them out. The warriors try to untangle themselves but the Paladin is too encumbered to do so easily and is almost turtle like in his dexterity. You are revelling in your apparent victory when a large mastiff breed of dog with a scarf around its neck launches into the room as if shot from a cannon, it quickly latches onto the nearest skeleton and starts tearing at its bony leg. An arrow is fired into the room hitting the skeleton which the dog is attacking causing it to unbalance and fall to the ground where the dog starts to attack it's skull. You use your two magic points to order two of your skeletons to attack your unseen assailant yet you are unable to see their progress from your prone position on the floor when they move out of sight.
Due to his heavy armour the Paladin remains on his back but the fighter regains his footing and dispatches two skeletons, the dog crushes the skull of the skeleton it's been attacking and the powerful animal then turns to attack another in a frenzy.
You cast fear and fortune turns in your favour again. The dog stops attacking and cowers in a corner of the room. The fighter hesitates and is overpowered by your remaining skeletons, the Paladin resists the spell and is gradually getting up but is quickly beaten to the ground again until the unseen archer starts picking off his remaining companions assailants.
Are you able to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat?

Game Monster
From Creep to Boss
You come into being as a low-level monster, the kind heroes chew through like popcorn. You know the drill, whether you're a player yourself or an artificial intelligence, and you're sick of it. You set out on your own quest: to defeat the heroes at any cost (or at least be an epic boss somewhere down the line).
