Chapter 21 by agenteightysix agenteightysix

Go first, or insist on going together?

You go first

You know you should stand up for yourself in this scenario, but you also feel like you have to prove yourself to the rest of your party. "All right, I'll go first!" you blurt out. You shoot the angriest look you can muster back at Adi for putting you in this scenario, but you also know that you still volunteered for this task.

Before you step forward, though, you stand up straight and point towards the pile of rocks to your side. "The switch is over there, if anything happens," you stammer out.

You do not wait for a response. As Jon begins peering down the tiny crevice you pointed to, you take one careful step onto the artificially smooth floor. Once you're sure the floor won't eat you up, you lift your other foot and take another careful step forward. However, once your other foot is fully placed on the ground the whole cave begins violently shaking. The shaking is brief but severe enough to **** you to crouch down for more stability. When the shaking ends, you look behind you, still squatting on the floor until you're sure you're safe.

To your shock, instead of the faces of your party members you are face to face with a smooth stone wall. In a panic, you throw yourself against it, pounding both fists in a vain attempt to make it through. You begin wailing, hoping that the three men on the other side can save you.

You hear a commotion for a while on the other side, then Nell's voice calmly stating, "We can't open it from here. You'll have to find another way out. We'll be waiting for you outside for as long as we can."

You can already hear Adi and Jon walking away as Nell finishes his instructions. Like it or not, you're on your own now. You turn around and peer down the dark hallway. It seems there's only one way to go now - forward.

What traps or puzzles must you face alone?
