(( AN. sorry for the bit of hiatus life borked my free time. This chapter is going to mostly be a Q&A between Rath and Limira to fill in more info about the world he's in now and it's rules/laws. If that doesn't interest you, then you can skip it and it won't affect the overall story much. ))

Eventually, Limira came down and joined us at the table. She paused and looked at the **** before sitting beside me and taking some cheese off the plate on the table. I was going to apologize to her when she spoke up before me. "I am sorry for freaking out at you when you walked into our room. I woke up and saw you were gone. I thought you were down here having something to eat so I took a bath. I didn't think you would be coming back into the room so I didn't lock the door and it would have been rude of me to lock you out of our room and-- "

I cut her off before she could continue rambling. "Limira, it's alright you don't need to apologize for reacting normally to someone walking in on you undressed. I should have knocked first. More importantly than that though I need more information from you about a few things."

After hearing I had more questions for her she seemed to relax a little more into her usual self. I figured this was as good a place as any to talk with her so I started with the most important questions on my mind first.

"How do I get to meet the King and get announced?" Seemed like a logical first question

"You can meet the king by attending any of the open court sessions held once a week in the capital. Everyone who lives on the continent is welcome to attend and have an audience with the current King or ruler of the continent. You would approach and speak with him announce your claim as Rogath and demonstrate your powers as well as provide whatever you know about how you arrived here. After that and the proof of your powers being made public you would be recognized by him and then go see the archivist for your identification mark and to be informed of your authorities."

ok sounds simple enough overall, I think.

"What is this 'identification mark' you just mentioned?"

"The identification mark is a brand of sorts, the archivist uses a very old form of contracting with a special ink that creates a permanent mark on the back of your hand which will show your rank among the population. It stays hidden visually most of the time unless someone asks to see it or you have the intention to show it. For most people, it will always be the same unless they are made a ****. For Rogath the mark can change depending on who they are around in the same way their position can change depending on how people view them."

Okay, so it's like a stamp to get into a theme park, where some people have different colors or shapes from buying different access packages. Kind of makes sense I guess.

"Where is the capital and how do we get there from here?"

"The capital city is called The Holy Royal Realm of Alrasia, most common people will just call it the capital city though. It sits a full day's journey north of here on foot and a little less than half a day by carriage."

"Once I'm recognized, marked, announced and all that stuff.. Are there any Duty's or anything I need to fulfill, like a job or anything like that?"

"No, While you are welcome to take on any job you desire at any time the Rogath are not required to work or do anything particular. As long as it doesn't break any of the laws the Rogath are pretty much free to do anything they want. The Rogath are given a very substantial stipend from the king or ruler of the continent, which is accumulated over time while there isn't a Rogath present, by taking out a small portion of the regular taxes and contributions and setting it aside."

Well, that's convenient and smart to do it that way to they would build a substantial reserve when it's not needed or being used and offset the part that is being used with the regular income.

"You keep saying the king OR ruler of the continent. Who else besides the king would be the ruler?"

"Technically no one other than the king would ever rule the land and population but the laws give the possibility of someone above the king in ranking so by definition they would be the ruler and the king required to obey them. That hasn't happened since the time before the founding of the current nation. All though, it is rumored the first king was one such person themselves no one has ever proved it."

that old fart wouldn't have done that to me...would he...

"What would happen if I indirectly killed someone?"

"That would depend on the circumstances behind it, Was it random or intentional? Was it self defense? Was it a 1-1 duel to settle a dispute. Was it accidental?"

I explained to her the sequence of events that happened when I went out for a walk and what happened to the guy who tried attacking me. When I finished Limira just sat looking at me for a moment then laughed.

"You don't have to worry about anything from what you said, I'm assuming this girl here is the one you mentioned she can count as witness to the events and you not only be awarded any property the guy you killed held but also her former masters property. You can do whatever you want with all of it after it's been transferred to you."

"How does it get transferred to me?"

"The identification mark, it also serves as a record of ownership. Anything you have ownership or claim to is recorded in the mark. Please don't ask me how I don't understand all of it, just enough to do my job... or former job now I guess. The archivist will probably have more information for you if you want to ask them when you see them."
