You discourage her.

"Hey babe..." You said slowly, as you nervously glanced over at your wife.

"Mm?" She barely looked back to you and was fixated on the mirror while adjusting her hair.

"Do you really think this is a good idea? I mean, being a magician's assistant? There's not much of a career path..." You spoke quite frankly. There wasn't an easy way to put it.

Jessica looked at you with a frown. "This is a lot of money for just one night, Steve. Career path or not, I'd be stupid to turn down the offer." You hated to admit, but what she said made sense. You weren't making much money yourself, and she made almost an entire month's salary from just one night.

"You don't care that you're being used as a guinea pig?" You asked. She shook her head. "No. So what? I'm entertaining an audience and getting paid to do it." She continued to fix her hair up in the mirror. "But most of them are just watching for your looks. It's not like you're actually doing anything skillful." You said, almost regretting it immediately. Jessica shot you an icy glare and remained silent for the rest of the ride home.

When you pulled up in the carpark, Jessica got out of the car and went inside without waiting for you. You eventually followed her in and saw that she had gone to bed already.

You wearily had a shower then went to sleep.
