You decide that you've let them wait for long enough

"Ahem..." You clear your throat as you try and pretend like you were just coming back down the stairs and enter the kitchen, to find your lovely housemate and her guest engaged in a very intimate conversation. Your arrival causes at least one of them to jump just a little on her chair, while the other turns her face towards you like if she knew all the time that you'd been standing right outside the door until now.

"Welcome back, John!" Rachel smiles at you softly, but manages to keep the blush from her cheeks only slightly better than her wide-eyed friend. The way that she looks you over nearly makes you blush yourself though, and especially as you realize that there's probably a rather visible bulge in your pants already. "Took you long enough just to change your clothes. We've almost finished our breakfast, you know."

"Yeah, I can see that." You raise an eyebrow at her, and manage to easily turn the remark right back at it's sender, as in truth they've still just barely touched their sandwiches and their tea has probably started to get cold. "You want a refill of that, or do you wish me to reheat them for you...?"

"A refill would be nice." Rachel admits, while pretending like she'd not even heard your observation, and quickly downs what's left in her cup with only the slightest hint of a grimace passing over her face at the bitter taste of it. If she's the slightest annoyed at your untimely interruption she doesn't show it with a single hint though, or at least you think that you know her well enough to have noticed if she did.

Meanwhile, Katie watches the two of you like she's never seen a couple squabble before in her entire life, but then slowly starts to smile again while you continue the light bantering. There's still something jealous in her eyes though, which is quite understandable given how you've stolen the attention of her former love interest, more than just by interrupting their current conversation.

This causes you to realize that it likely wasn't Katie's idea to break up in the first place, which in turn makes you wonder even more what ultimately brought your new housemate to your doorstep. Rachel didn't seem to know for sure what caused the split though, unless it was a white lie on her part, which would probably mean that she just wasn't ready for a lasting relationship at the time.

So, what does that make you then? Just a stepping stone to get her back on track again, or did she truly find what she was actually looking for...?

You decide not to dwell on it for too long though, as you know that you're happy with the ways as they are, and would try and stay that way even if Rachel would chose to eventually go back to Katie instead. It's not easy to think about losing her of course, but even so you'd be much better off knowing it was with a girl she liked, rather than another man - or even worse, to end up all on her own again...

"No, that's enough..." The blonde mumbles as you move to offer some fresh hot water to her cup of tea, but grimaces even worse than Rachel as she takes a sip of it's cold contents. "Well, just a bit I guess..."

"I'll give you a new one instead." You smile at her, and head over to the sink with the old one as she nods her head in gratitude. She's still not looking you directly in the eyes though, and you notice the blush returning to her cheeks again while you stand beside her to fill up the new cup with boiling hot water from the can.

At first you may have thought she was merely being a bit shy, considering how she greeted you like this when you first met her in the doorway as well, but now more than then you can tell that her behavior is mostly due to your relation to Rachel rather than because she doesn't know you too well. While she does a bit bashful already to start with, you're slowly starting to realize that this is not a trait she's showing to people in general, and the more you think of it the better you believe you can understand how much she and housemate may have in common.

Appearances aside, they certainly seemed to have the same kind of humor when left on their own, and it's somewhat easy to imagine how this rather tomboyish girl would be able to talk right back to the best of them.

While this sudden insight causes you to look at her in a different light, you also find yourself re-evaluating her physical form as well, and start taking notice of things that weren't as obvious the first time you met her in the dim hallway outside your kitchen.

From the picture on Rachel's laptop you always assumed she was flat like a board, just like her face and haircut made her look a lot like boy much younger than her actual age, but now you notice that she's got some very feminine curves going on under the tight white shirt which clings to her figure like a second skin. And as you look even closer you become more certain that she's merely wrapped her chest up tight with something underneath her clothes, just to conceal the most of her curves, and likewise has stuck her hips into a pair of pants that are much too tight to give full justice to her firm looking ass.

"I think you're about to spill on the table." Your observations are suddenly disrupted by Rachel's silky voice, and causes you to immediately returning your attention to the cup you've been pouring hot water into even as it's so full that it's already spilling over.

Instead of apologizing you simply point to the saucer underneath it though, as if it was perfectly normal to check it's functionality every now and then, and even manage quite well to cover your embarrassment as you settle down by the short edge of the table. You can't fail to notice how both girls are giving you funny looks of course, but at least it seems like your slight mistake has managed to break the ice between you and Katie.

For now, at least, it seems like she's able to smile and even look you in the eyes when you dare to glance her way again...
