Chapter 48 by Almax Almax

The whistle blows, to symbol the start of your one-on-one match with the universe!

.....You could try something with your shield, maybe?

Okay, listen up, because here's your reasoning: you want stuff to hit your shield, right? Of course you do! It's only logical. So! You did some thinking, and you realised that it would be awesome if everything that attacked you was homing, but ended up locked onto your shield instead. So, from that, you started thinking -- how could you make sure that you only get attacked by people with homing weapons that lock onto your shield?

You came up blank from that one. Other than politeness and luck, it seemed like you'd hit a dead end there. But! Then you got up and started walking around the room contemplatively, and noticed Cameron working over his shields, and that got you thinking about this old maths teacher you had at regular school named Mrs. Shiels, and she was really boring, and it's super weird how "boring" also means drilling into stuff, and then you started thinking about mining and how hard it must've been to get all the metal and stuff for the equipment you've all got now. THEN you started thinking about metal!

From metal, you took a detour into thinking about polish, and you started to wonder if polished metal is metal that's been cleaned and so looks all shiny naturally or if polish is actually something that shines and people just put it over metal. How shiny is metal normally? Is rust a metal? Rust makes metal less shiny. Actually, how come people want to get rid of rust? Surely it's an extra layer of stuff that makes the metal more protective, right?

"Hey, Rhys?" You called out, pausing in your tracks of tracing the room's borders. He stopped the music with a chckk, but kept his hand on the button. "Why's rust bad?"

"Destroys and weakens metal, little dude. Plus it's, like, diseases."

Oh. Cool. You continued walking, and the music came back on after another chckk. It makes a lot of sense that people would want to remove rust then, actually. Still don't know about polish, though. THEN you started thinking about how rust is removed, right? Is it polish? Ben took some rust off his bike's wheels with cola once when you both were younger, you think. So THEN you started thinking about cola, and-

"Oh, by the way bros." Rhys called out over the blaring music. "There's two super powerful electromagnets that I bought, so that I could open the fridge door from the couch, but then I still had to actually get up and go over to the fridge to the food once the door was open. So they are useless to me now. If any of you lil' grommets want them then you can have 'em."

.....And that's how you decided to attach an electromagnet to the front of your shield!

The attachment is a bit haphazard, it's mostly tape, but it doesn't feel like it's going anywhere anytime soon! The little activating switch is in an easy-to-hit place, and it should help you block metal stuff a bit better since it'll draw them towards it. A lot of monsters just use claws and teeth and stuff, but a lot also use knives and arrows and stuff probably, and this'll definitely give you an edge over them!

Just then, as you finish testing the now-attached electromagnet that Rhys graciously gave you (which you are very happy with!), the bell rings to signal the end of class. Just in time! With a grin, you run over to your gear suitcase and pack your shield and stuff back into it. Before closing the lid, you admire the shining duct tape which holds the electromagnet to the front of your shield, but then you gently shut the lid and heft up the case.

"Alright then, that's class dudes!" Rhys says standing up from his desk and _chckk_ing off the boom box. "I'll see you all again in, like, a long time. Let me know if you need anything! Somehow. You'll find a way, you're a smart group a' kids."{if Time == 7}

On your way out you see that Lexi's just now finishing what she spent all class working on. She's painted a nice little pink heart on the middle of the chest of her brown leather armour. Aw, that's nice. It's got a gradient and shine to it too, so it looks all 3D. That probably took a ton of work!{endif}

Well then, class is over -- Courtyard?
