You close the distance

“Alright, that’s close enough!” you order.

Elena brings the ship to starboard, and the pirates rapidly dart after you. The two vessels entangle themselves in a circular loop in the vastness. You exchange shots again. The pirates miss, but you still able to hit them. Elena is just perfect! Seconds later you score another hit. The enemy’s shield begins to flicker. Then you hit them again, and it ceases.

“Keep firing!” you order. You want to take care of the main gun first, and deal with the ship later. But the pirates have a final trick up their sleeve: They suddenly stop the acceleration of their vessel, and they manage to avoid the next projectile. With the additional benefit of you running yourself right in front of that cannon.

“Shit!” you raise your voice, as the pirates hit your vessel. Luckily there is still some distance between you, and your shield is somehow able to absorb the shot. In the meantime, Elena fires again, and she lands a direct hit at their hull.

“Jamming is down!” she says.

“Punch it!” you raise your voice. And she is happy to comply with your order.

The Emerald Grace fires up her FTL drive, and you are finally away, escaping the ambush that could have ended with a different result so easily.
