You Start Strong

"Go, Geodude!" yells Brock, the bulky rock-type pokemon appearing from his thrown poke ball, looking ready to fight.

You know exactly what to do, of course. "Go, Mankey!" Your pig monkey pokemon eagerly leaps from his poke ball, ready for his first real test.

Brock knows that Mankey has a type advantage, but also is aware of its low defense stats and realises he needs to get rid of it quickly before it can get in any attacks. "Geodude, Rock Throw!" commands the gym leader, looking to attack Mankey from range before it can get in close.

Thankfully you've prepared for this strategy and trained Mankey accordingly. "Mankey, karate chop!" you yell, and the fighting type chops at the incoming rock with so much **** and such perfect timing that the boulder shatters on impact.

You see Brock smile at this, clearly impressed, but you don't allow yourself to get distracted for long, quickly commanding Mankey forward towards the opposing side of the arena. Geodude tries to slow it down with a Rock Tomb, but you command a dodge just in time before Mankey closes in on its foe and you order it to deliver a Low Kick. The **** of the fighting move is too much for Geodude, and it falls to the floor, leaving it **** to one more Karate Chop for the finishing blow.

Hell yes! Adrenaline surges through you; just Onix to go now and you've got your first badge.

"Not bad, Amber," smiles Brock, withdrawing his Geodude from the field. "Let's see how you deal with this, though..."
