You’re an adult and a wielder of magic. She can’t tell you what to do

“I’m sorry, Mom,” you tell her. “I can’t promise that I’ll never use magic. What if you or Abbie were really sick, and I knew a spell that could cure you? Or if I could cast that spell that my father used to make money, so I could make our lives easier? If I was able to, wouldn’t doing that be the right thing?”

“The road to hell is paved with good intentions, David,” your mother replies icily. “You might start out wanting to help us, but the more you used the power, the more corrupted you’d become.”

“How can you be so sure? Did you ever know anyone else who used magic? Maybe magic had nothing to do with our dad leaving. He could have just been an asshole to begin with, and you just didn’t see it. You don’t have any proof that I’d be anything like him,” you argue.

“The way you’re behaving now is convincing evidence that you’re already getting pretty full of yourself, young man,” she says. “I’m not going to argue about it. As long as you’re living in my house, I don’t want you having anything to do with magic.”

You set your jaw and look down into your mom’s eyes. “I can’t believe you don’t see the potential of this. Magic is real and I can cast spells. It’s literally miraculous, and you’re too scared to even let me find out what I could possibly achieve with it. I’m legally an adult. You can’t make me do anything. I’m not just going to give it up,” you insist.

“If magic is more important to you than my wishes, then you can move out,” your mother tells you.

“If you are going to be unreasonable and not let me realize my potential, I guess I’ll have to,” you answer her.

“I expect you to at least respect my rules and not cast any spells while you are still here. Once you’re on your own, you can do what you like.” She gets up and leaves the room, heading upstairs to her bedroom.

Abbie stares at you in shock. “You’re not really going to move out, are you?” she asks nervously.

“I don’t see why not, if Mom is going to be like that. I’ll be able to get more done out from under her anyway. I can take care of myself. I’m sure that with the spells on the website, I can do just fine,” you tell your sister. “Eventually, she’ll see that magic can help us all out, and it won’t turn me into a dick. Then she’ll have to apologize.”

“But…” Abbie looks around to make sure your mother isn’t nearby and lowers her voice, “I’ll have to move out too, to be with you. Won’t that make Mom suspicious?”

You shrug, “We were going to have to move out and get a place together at some point, so we don’t have to sneak around Mom all the time. This just means we’ll do it sooner. I was thinking… that girl Cyn you wanted to introduce me to, is she hot, and does she have her own place?”
