Chapter 103 by JZ01 JZ01

Not quite a wizard with words is he?

You're about to find out

"I would love to!" Terra says with excitement practically pouring out of her eyes alongside her words.

"Really?!" John asks.

"Of course! I have always wanted to teach but that damn school deemed me too 'unpredictable' and 'untrustworthy with the proper education of children', like I would put any kids in harms way!" Terra says, obviously airing some grievances.

"She says that like we didn't find her in a cave" Amilia comments.

"Uhh first, that wasn't my fault, I was taken during an excursion. Secondly, I would take the utmost precautions when guiding a class of magic wielders through this swamp of a world" Terra says with gusto, trying to convince the others of her point, which she doesn't.

Lani then jumps in the conversation as she says, "No matter the situation, I believe John will make for a great student. He even managed to learn how to fight with a sword and shield in just a few days".

"Wait, the cave was your first fight with a sword?!" Terra asks surprised as her eyes whip back toward John.

"Uhh, technically, yeah" John responds with a quieter, almost embarrassed tone.

Terra is stunned, unsure of how to even respond to that as she remembers fighting alongside him in that cave. She sees the flashes of the scuffles where John actually saved them and made the difference in others.

That's when she remembers one particular moment.

John's first kill.

Terra remembers his expression as clear as the sun in the sky. The fear in his eyes as he held his sword, the shock replacing the fear as he pointed his sword into the Darkcross members throat.

But most importantly, she remembers the regret in his face as he stood over the fallen body, blood pooling from the corpse as he simply stared.

Terra snaps out of the flashes of memory as she now looks at the present John who is looking at her before asking, "Hey, you alright? You look like you just had a flashback".

"What? No, no, i'm alright, actually, i'm fine. Dandy even" Terra says, trying to convince the others that she's alright which once again, doesn't work.

"Terra..." John says, trying to get her to admit whatever it is that she just saw in her head.

Terra looks at the man and relents, letting out a sigh before heading over to John's side and saying, "I just remembered about, what I assume was your, first kill".

John nearly doubles over in pain, his stomach feeling like it just took a full strength, direct impact from a heavyweight boxer.

The memories comes flashing back, his shaking hands holding the sword as he prepared himself to plunge it forward into the Darkcross member.

Just as the sword moves forward, his mind goes dark yet he still hears the sickening squelching sound as the steel sliced through the skin and into the throat of the guard before coming out on the other side.

The smell of blood fills his nostrils once more, making him feel sick again.

He is then taken out of the memory by Terra's hand on his shoulder, her comforting eyes looking into his as she says, "Are you okay?".

John takes a moment, taking a breath and recollecting his thoughts before he responds, "I guess, I just..." John stops himself for another moment before continuing. "I just kinda, blanked it out".

"It's often the best way" Terra comments, putting her hand onto John's before saying, "You will never get used to it so don't think you will, instead, think about the people you saved from any future **** or predicaments like Amilia's"

John looks at Terra with a confused expression and that's when Terra explains, "Amilia told me about it all last night. Unfortunately she went into some very, vivid, details also which I did not appreciate but nonetheless, they're currently burned into my head".

"She has a knack for doing that" John says as the two begin chuckling.

The chuckling is then followed up as Kyuala's voice calls out to the others in the back, "Hey! We're coming up on the cave! Get ready!".

The four look amongst one another as the wagon begins to slow down as Daffodil pulls up to that familiar tree.

Surely it can't be as bad the second time right?
