Chapter 3 by Braids Braids

1.) IF YOU WERE A GIRL . . . WOULD YOUR HANDWRITING BE NICE?

Yes.

Yes.

A simple and direct answer to a simple and direct question. Curiosity piqued, Joel was about to turn the page to the next question but his irritation brought up an unexpected rush of inspiration and he went back to his one-word answer.

Yes, I would be sure to put in the effort to make my writing nice and legible. I'd want to make certain that whenever I had to leave a note for someone it would be clean and clear, and not make it an inconvenient pain in the ass to anyone I had to communicate with. I'd be very accommodating to others, thank you very much. I would even go as far as to make sure my signature was well-written and legible. Unlike some people I know.

As if to prove his point, Joel took his own time to carefully write out each word with the best penmanship he could manage, which be his own account wasn't much but it was a 5-Star effort compared to nearly every other inconsiderate in the office.

Joel reread the answer to himself and allowed himself a small grin. He then snatched up the post-it note and spent the next few minutes trying to translate it, taking out a notepad and transcribing the message along with the due date. As he did so, he glanced at a few other notes around his cubicle and snatched them up, writing a list of all the literal reminders various people had left. About ten minutes later, he put the notepad down, satisfied with his work, Everything was just the way he wanted it, clear and crisp and easy to read. He crumpled up the small pile of post its and tossed them into the waste basket before finally returning his attention to the packet. He glanced at the note pad and felt a decent bit of pride. Maybe his standards had been lowered by everyone else around him but he had to compliment himself, he had damn good handwriting. In fact, he felt quite surprised, he never thought it was this good. If only more people could do it like him.

Equally pleased with himself and frustrated at nearly everyone else in the office, Joel turned the page of the questionnaire and wondered how much of the quiz he could finish before his break was over. The second question wasn't necessarily sexual in nature but it was much more aligned with what he had been expecting the quiz to be.
