The group's journey into the Concord streets was soon interrupted by gunfire. Bullets bounced off the concrete close to Dogmeat's paws. The dog jumped, Nora froze, Nate's training kicked in.

Sighting his two targets, Nate aimed and let off two pairs of shots that easily found their targets. Two raiders hit the floor.

Before the remaining raider could react to the sudden reversal, a laser from above struck him in the chest, reducing him to a pile of smoking dust.

Nate and Nora looked up. On a balcony, a black man in a duster coat looked down, his weapon humming. Nate hadn't seen anything of the like during his service.

"Hello there, Preston Garvey of the Minutemen. I've got civilians inside, and raiders everywhere. Lend a hand?" Garvey asked.

The couple agreed. Garvey seemed like a good ally to have, and besides, neither could stand by while innocent people were at risk.

Stealing themselves, they entered the Museum of Freedom.

The vault dwellers managed to fight their way up to Preston mostly unscathed. Nate's training meant the disorganized and poorly equipped raiders posed little threat. Nora even got a couple of lucky shots in, though her ramshackle pistol had proven a little ineffective. If this was the world now, I'll have to learn to shoot, and fast, Nora thought as she caught her breath.

With the raiders temporarily at bay, Preston let Nate and Nora into his refuge, and made more in-depth introductions, both to himself and the civilians he was defending. The engineer Sturges, a couple, the Longs, and a supposed-mystic by the name of Mama Murphy.

Garvey and Sturges outlined a plan to see off the rest of the raiders. Access the rooftop, where a crashed vertibird would allow them access to a minigun, and a set of power armour.

"It'd sure beat this." Nate said, emphasising his pistol, which was beginning to run low.

Leaving Dogmeat being, Nate and Nora set about getting to the weapons and armour.
