Is he?
Yes.
"...yes?" Chris said apprehensively. Ada giggled and took his hand.
"You don't have to be afraid of me, Chris. Now, come here."
She led him into his bedroom and onto his bed, where she laid down next to him. She placed a hand on his chest and told him to close his eyes.
"I told you-" he began to protest, but she cut him off.
"I know what you told me," she said soothingly. "You think I would forget? This is something else. Just close your eyes and listen."
Chris did as she said, curious about this strange new dynamic. She cuddled against him and began to whisper in his ear.
"Chris, you're a good man. I didn't see that before, but I see it now. Of course you wouldn't take advantage of me in my new state, and in retrospect it was foolish of me to assume you would."
"It wasn't foolish," he objected. She rubbed his chest and nuzzled into his neck.
"Call it what you want, but the point is that I was wrong. I came into this relationship thinking that all men care about is sex and sexual gratification. It wasn't a reflection on you, but on your gender. You aren't the person I assumed you were, and that's on me. You're a good man."
Chris nodded slowly. Her soft voice and gentle massage had a soporific effect, and he felt pleasantly lazy. Ada continued.
"I've been... rethinking my approach," she said softly. "I've been coming at you like you're a sociopath - even when I try to be the 'old me' for you, I'm transparently eager to do anything to please you."
"But isn't that all that's left?" he mumbled groggily. "Isn't... you can't do anything for yourself anymore, right?"
Ada kissed his cheek chastely. "That's what I thought. That's what the doctor told us, right? But they vastly oversimplified it. They misled both of us, painted a picture of a mindless automaton. That's a limit on their imagination."
He opened his eyes. "Ada, what are you saying? Are you saying you're you again? That you're... cured?"
"Not quite. Chris, I'm going to tell you something that may seem strange, but I need you to hear me out. Ok?" He laid his head back down and nodded assent, so she continued. "Chris, you love me. You are in love with me."
His eyes shot open again. "What-"
"Don't deny it. You may not be consciously aware of it, but I've realized it. The two things that the doctors never considered make all the difference in the world: you're a good man, and you love me. That means you want what's best for me just as much as I want what's best for you. My condition was neurologically superimposed, yours developed organically, but the result is the same. I see that now."
"But what does all this mean?" Chris asked.
Ada took his hand in hers and placed it on her chest. It conformed to the shape of her warm, supple breast, and she smiled down at it, then looked at him with adoration.
"It means we can enjoy each other," she said. "Does my body feel good under your hand?"
He gulped and nodded, his thumb rubbing gently through the thin fabric of her top. She placed a hand on his face and stroked it.
"Your hand feels good on my body. Let's make each other feel good."
Should they?
