Chapter 4 by Writerofsmut02 Writerofsmut02

Is his boss okay with this?

Yes

John dialed Julio's number, waiting as the phone rang. He glanced around his room, taking in the posters and gaming setup. A lot had changed for him over the past year, but some things stayed the same.

"Hello?" Julio's deep voice came through the phone.

"Hey, Julio. It's John," he began, his tone respectful.

"John! What's up, man? You ready for the last round of lawn mowing before school starts?" Julio sounded cheerful, always the morning person.

"Actually, that's what I wanted to talk to you about," Johnsaid, scratching the back of his neck. "I was hoping I could take today off. It's my birthday, and my family has some plans."

There was a brief pause on the other end. "Your birthday, huh? Eighteen, right?"

"Yeah, eighteen," John confirmed.

Julio chuckled. "Man, I remember turning eighteen. Alright, John, you've been busting your ass all summer. You deserve a break. Go enjoy your birthday. We'll manage without you today."

John felt a wave of relief wash over him. "Thanks, Julio. I really appreciate it."

"No problem, kid. Happy birthday! And hey, make sure you swing by next weekend for your paycheck and maybe we can grab a bite to eat to celebrate."

"Sounds good. Thanks again, Julio. I'll see you next weekend."

"Take care, John."

John ended the call, a smile spreading across his face. He tossed his phone onto his bed and began to gather his clothes for the gym. Today was shaping up to be a good day. After throwing his gym bag over his shoulder, he took one last look at his room, feeling a mix of nostalgia and excitement for the changes ahead.

He headed downstairs, gym bag in hand. "Hey, I'm heading out now," he called to his stepmom and stepsisters.

"Alright, have a good workout," his stepmom replied with a warm smile.

"See you later, birthday boy," Emily teased, while Riley gave him a thumbs up.

John grinned and headed out the door. The sun was just beginning to rise, casting a golden hue over the neighborhood. As he jogged to his car, he couldn't help but feel optimistic about the day ahead. Today marked a new chapter in his life, and he was ready to embrace whatever changes came his way.

Where does he go next? Is he interrupted on way to gym?
