Chapter 6
by realizingworlds
Do you meet with the stranger?
Yes
You ponder over the note for a second before sliding it into your pocket. There's still two hours left of your shift. Plenty of time to decide if meeting this stranger is a good idea. Well, you're fairly certain that it isn't; going off with strangers tends to get people robbed at best and killed at worst. But that aura he had... It's kept you distracted all night. Can you live with not knowing?
This stranger... He's got quite the hold on you. You can practically see his eyes every time you close yours. His voice was smooth and low. A melody to your ears. You can tell from the few words he spoke that he was rich with power. Whatever he is, a small part of you thinks he could overpower you without trying.
The more you think about it, the worse your curiosity gets. You need to know who this man is. You need to know what he wants. Just what does this stranger want? What does he think he can offer you? By the time your section clears out for the night, you've made your decision. Even knowing that this could end badly for you, you have to meet him.
Thankfully, Kai has already gone home by the end of your shift. He can't stop you. You send him a text, telling him you'll be out a bit longer and to not wait up. Once you get the all-clear from the boss, you clock out and change. You give the rest of the staff a wave goodbye before heading out the door.
You pause once you're outside. He didn't say where he would be waiting. You glance around, looking for the stranger. He can't be too far.
There's a whistle to your left. You spot a hand waving you over from a nearby alleyway. Typical. It makes sense he wouldn't want to be seen. You wonder if you should back out. Then you shrug. Foxes are naturally curious creatures and you have no interest in fighting your desires. His aura is different now as well, you no longer get the feeling of fear. It makes you think he wanted the others to leave him alone, not you.
You follow the stranger, barely able to see him through the dark. There are lights above, but they flicker erratically. You glance behind you. No one is following you. Good. You don't want your stranger to be spooked away.
Eventually, the two of you stop. You glance around. It's mostly just dumpsters and businesses, but you do notice a door ajar nearby. It's that old laundry mat that shut down a few years ago. Had the stranger been staying there? Why would he do that? Maybe you were reading too much into it.
"You have a lot of courage following me."
You huff and roll your eyes, annoyed. "You were the one who invited me. And I'm certainly not afraid of you."
Well, that was a lie. You can still taste his power in the air. While you do think you could fight back enough to escape, you do know if you made a wrong move it could be disastrous. Hopefully he doesn't get any ideas, you are in no mood for a fight.
The stranger chuckles, turning towards you. Again, everything is covered, except his eyes. The deep ruby color catches you off guard again. You go through your list again. You don't think he's a human and you doubt he's a fairy or a werewolf. While both are powerful in their own ways, werewolves don't have the luring ability and a fairy would have to use their wings to do so. While it would be amazing for it to be another kitsune, you try not to get your hopes up. Your kind rarely leave your homeland. You are definitely leaning towards a siren, a vampire, or a demon.
"I can see you thinking, little kit. I've caught your interest."
You simply nod, unsure of what to say.
"Oh, it's good to see that curiosity in you. I was afraid it would have been snuffed out of you years ago."
What? He's acting like he's known you your entire life. But you would have noticed an aura like his, even as a kit. You cock your head to the side in confusion. "Am I supposed to know you?"
The stranger laughs. "Of course not, but I know you. Been watching for years and I think it's finally time. Your own aura is telling, I suspect you'll match your father in tails one day."
"My father? What do you know about him? I don't even know him?!"
This guy is officially creeping you out. You want to run, but find your legs won't move. His magic is heavy in the air, suppressing your own. It's making you frozen, yet you can still speak. "Don't fret little kit." he says, walking forward to gently caress your cheek, "I mean you no harm. Fate has plans for you and I suspect you are just who I was waiting for."
You want to jerk away from his touch. "Who are you? What do you want with me?"
The man laughs, but doesn't answer. Instead he reaches for his hold and his mask. It seems you're finally getting your answers.
Who is the stranger?
